Final Stats

LINCOLN, Neb. - Nebraska paid back the Gopher Baseball team for Friday's series opener thanks to a solid pitching performance and a slugging first baseman for an 8-2 victory to even the series at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park.

Minnesota (15-9, 1-1 Big Ten) surrendered at least a run in each of the first five innings, and Nebraska (13-10, 1-1 Big Ten) got two home runs from Scott Schreiber to lead the way. Matt Waldron worked 7.0 innings for the Huskers, surrendering just one earned run while scattering eight hits and striking out five on the day.

Nick Lackney pitched the first 3+ innings for the Gophers, striking out five in the process but the Huskers struck for five runs, four earned against him, on four hits and two walks. The Gophers also had a pair of errors on the day. After a scoreless first inning of relief work, Brett Schulze surrendered three runs in the sixth, allowing five hits on the day while striking out three.

Schreiber finished 3-for-4 on the day with three RBIs, three runs scored, and a walk to go with the two big flies. Ben Mezzenga went 2-for-4 for the #Gophers while Cole McDevitt was 2-for-3 before being relieved defensively by Eli Wilson late in the game.

NOTABLE

He's allowed just four hits and struck out 13 in that span … Terrin Vavra's first-inning single extended his streak of reaching base to 23 consecutive games … Mezzenga extended his team-leading hitting streak to nine games.
