No. 11 Gophers Win Six Events at Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss. - The Golden Gophers won six event titles and added eight runner-up finishes as the No. 11 Minnesota women's track & field team competed at the Ole Miss Classic at the Ole Miss Track & Field Complex on Saturday.
Minnesota won both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. The Gophers' 4x100m relay team of Rachel Schow, Titania Markland, Emma Spagnola, and Emerald Egwim won in 44.84 seconds, moving into fourth in Gophers' history, and the Maroon & Gold 4x400m relay of Egwim, Schow, Markland, and Val Larson ran 3:33.98 to win the meet and rank third in program history.
Schow also won the 400m hurdles in a career-best 59.14 seconds, improving on her seventh-ranked time in program history. She led the Gophers with a runner-up showing in the 100m hurdles in 13.996 seconds as well. The Gophers took the top two places in the 400m hurdles as Lindsey Smits was second behind Schow in 1:00.78.
Markland finished as runner-up in the 800m in 2:10.76 followed by Larson in fifth place in 2:11.92.
Other action on the track saw Egwim lead the Gophers in the 200m (24.27 seconds) in fifth place and Sophia Anderson place sixth in the 400m (56.59 seconds).
The Gophers won three titles in the field events as Karlie Place won pole vault by clearing 3.95m (12-11.50) to move into 10th in program history, Nicolle Murphy won javelin with her second-best throw of her career at 56.17m (184-03), and Agnes Esser won discus with a throw of 56.32m (184-09). The Maroon & Gold took the top two spots in the javelin as Ayesha Champagnie was runner-up with a throw of 45.47m (149-02).
Temi Ogunrinde recorded a career-best throw of 64.644m (212-00) to finish second in hammer throw and improve on her own Minnesota program record.
Lorean Murray and Ashley Ramacher both posted runner-up finishes and made their mark in Minnesota history as well. Ramacher finished as runner-up in high jump, clearing 1.75m (5-08.75) to rank ninth in Minnesota history, and Murray finished as triple jump runner-up with a mark of 12.23m (40-01.50) to rank eighth among all-time Gophers. Murray also led Minnesota in long jump with a fourth-place finish (5.76m, 18-10.75).
In the shot put, Kiley Sabin led the Gophers, throwing 16.48m (54-01.00) as runner-up at the meet. Nayoka Clunis finished third with a career-best throw of 15.67m (51-05.00) to move into 10th in Gophers' history; she also moved into 10th in program history with a career-best throw of 59.71m (195-11) to place seventh in hammer throw.
Members of the Gophers distance corps also competed at the Raleigh Relays this weekend, including the 4x800m relay team of Carissa Dock, Abby Kohut-Jackson, Delaney FitzPatrick, and Paige Peschel placing fifth in 9:06.29 on Saturday.
Next Saturday, the Gophers are set to compete at the Baylor Invitational in Waco, Texas, at the Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium. Minnesota will face competition from host Baylor, DePaul, Oklahoma Baptist, Oral Roberts, Oregon State, Prairie View A&M, SMU, North Texas, UT-Arlington, UTSA, and Midwestern State. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth, ages 2-17.
Minnesota's non-traveling squad will also compete at the HU Invitational in St. Paul, Minn., next Saturday at Hamline University's Klas Field.
