Divers Add Events to NCAA Championship Schedule

MINNEAPOLIS - On the second day of the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships at Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center, three Gophers added events to their NCAA Championship schedule. Highlighting the day was sophomore Sarah Bacon who won the women's 3-meter competition with a 12-dive score of 770.45.
Bacon who punched her ticket to the NCAA meet Monday afternoon following a third place finish on the 1-meter, qualifies in the 3-meter with a top-12 finish. Kristen Hayden was in the same boat as Bacon, having also qualified on the 1-meter. Hayden found a top-12 finish to qualify in the 3-meter placing seventh with a score of 645.20.
With just nine eligible NCAA spots in the 3-meter for the women in Zone D, Xiao Fu just missed qualifying as she placed 10th scoring a 631.95. Also competing in the finals was Mariam Khamis who placed 14th (618.70) and Beth Etterman in 18th (582.80). Morgan Justus in the prelims finished 27th with a score of 272.35.
On the men's side, all four Gophers that competed on the 1-meter board reached the finals. Nick Yang notched the Gophers highest finish placing fifth. Scoring a 717.00 Yang adds 1-meter to his NCAA events list after qualifying on the 3-meter. Alan LeBlang placed 13th in the event with a score of 670.95, Jeremy Moser dove a 648.55 en route to 15th place and Maxim Royzen finished 18th with a score of 607.50.
NCAA Zone D Diving Championships concludes Wednesday, March 7 at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center as both men and women compete on the platform. There will be six qualifying spots for the NCAA meet on the men's side, while the women have nine.
