Ogunrinde Crushes Hammer Throw Record

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The No. 14 Golden Gopher women's track & field team rewrote the program's recordbooks in the hammer throw and the heptathlon while competing at three meets on the west coast on Thursday.

Mt. SAC Relays

The Gophers recorded three of the top four hammer throw marks in school history at the Mt. SAC Relays, led by Temi Ogunrinde (Cottage Grove, Minn.) crushing her own Minnesota school record with a throw of 67.45m (221-03) while Agnes Esser (McBride, B.C.) also set a career best with a mark of 63.35m (207-10) to rank second in Gophers history. Nayoka Clunis (Kingston, Jamaica) won the open section of hammer throw with a career-best throw of 62.84m (206-02) to rank fourth among all-time Gophers.

Bailey Ness (Woodbury, Minn.) clocked a time of 35:44.67 in the 10,000m, running just her second race of the 2018 season.

Bryan Clay Multi-Event

The Gophers rewrote the Minnesota history books at the Bryan Clay heptathlon. Ayesha Champagnie (Kingston, Jamaica) scored a career-best 5,521 points to place fourth in Group 4 and rank third in Gophers' history. She set PRs in three of seven events: 100m hurdles (13.95 seconds, ranked seventh in Minnesota history), 200m (24.75 seconds), and 800m (2:29.16).

Following Champagnie was Ashley Ramacher (Eden Prairie, Minn.), who placed 10th in Group 3 and moved into fifth in Minnesota history with a career-best score of 5,231. Ramacher posted career-best marks in five of seven events: 100m hurdles (14.20), high jump (1.81m, 5-11.25, ranked third in Minnesota history), shot put (10.13m, 33-03.00), long jump (5.45m, 17-10.75), and 800m (2:2.91).

Sofie Albrechtsen (Esbjerg, Denmark) scored a career-best 5,143 points to rank eighth in Gophers' history while placing 13th in Group 3 at the meet; she also set a pair of career-best marks in just her second collegiate heptathlon: long jump (5.39m, 17-08.25) and 800m (2:25.51).

Kayla Nelson (Rush City, Minn.) rounded out the Gophers heptathletes' performances with a career-best score of 4,596 to place fourth in Group 1 at the Bryan Clay Multi-Event. She set career-best marks in high jump (1.60m, 5-03.00) and shot put (10.87m, 35-08.00) on the way to her heptathlon PR.

Pacific Coast Intercollegiate: Meet Results Get Acrobat Reader

Kiley Sabin (Slinger, Wis.) won the shot put with a throw of 16.58m (54-04.75) and placed second in the discus (52.32m, 171-08) to lead Minnesota at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate hosted by Long Beach State. Shay Nielsen (Detroit Lakes, Minn.) also competed, recording a mark of 14.58m (47-10.00) to place 11th in the shot put.

Action continues for the Gophers in California on Friday and Saturday with athletes competing at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Mt. SAC Relays, and Beach Invitational.
