MINNEAPOLIS - Leadoff hitter MaKenna Partain and cleanup hitter Sydney Dwyer combined to drive in 11 of the 20 Minnesota runs as the Gophers extended their winning streak to nine games Wednesday afternoon. Having now won 28 straight games at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium, Minnesota (29-14, 11-3 Big Ten) hit their way to a Border Battle sweep of Wisconsin (22-19, 6-8 Big Ten) by scores of 12-1 and 8-0.
"Collectively throughout our lineup we have a lot of people contributing," said head coach Jamie Trachsel of the offensive production. "[Amber Fiser] has been a work horse for us for a long time now and she is throwing well in the circle."
Leading the Gophers at the plate was Dwyer who went 4-for-7 with one run, five RBI and her sixth home run of the year. Partain on the day went 3-for-7 with three runs and driving in five including a grand slam in game one.
Game one | #RV/RV Minnesota 12, Wisconsin 1 (5 innings)
For the fourth time in five games Minnesota put a crooked number up on the board in the opening frame. Sending 13 hitters to the plate, the Gophers scored eight runs on seven hits putting the damage on early.
Highlighting the first was Partain's second at-bat of the inning as she recorded the Gophers first grand slam of the year. Prior to Partain's long ball, Dwyer put Minnesota on the board with a three-run home run the left center.
Starting her fourth straight game, Amber Fiser continued to keep her opponents in a guessing game at the plate. Allowing a leadoff walk to start the game, she responded right back retiring nine of the next 10 hitters she faced.
Leading 9-0 in the third, Fiser allowed a two-out home run to Wisconsin's Kelsey Jenkins surrendering just her second earned run in the last 35.1 innings of work.
Minnesota added runs in the second and third, as Alex Velazquez tallied a pinch-hit RBI double and Dwyer a RBI single.
Carlie Brandt moved from short to the pitching circle for a 1-2-3 fourth before Rachel Lowary pitched the fifth recording a pair of strikeouts.
Minnesota completed the 12-run game scoring two runs in the fourth. Parlich drove in her first run of the day connecting on her first triple of the year before scoring one batter later on an Erika Rozell pinch-hit sacrifice fly.
Game two | #RV/RV Minnesota 8, Wisconsin 0 (6 innings)
Fiser continued to be lights out in game two, departing after tossing five perfect innings of work to improve to 21-8 on the season. Of the 15 batters face, Fiser retired six Badger hitters on strikeouts.
The offense once again provided production early using three bunt singles to produce a pair of runs in the second. Brandt brought in the Gophers' first run of the game scoring Wagner on a successful squeeze play before Partain scored Parlich with a RBI groundout.
Batting around in the first of game one was not good enough for the Minnesota offense, as they did the exact same thing in the fourth of game two. Minnesota strung together five hits on three walks after sending 10 hitters to the plate. Partain drove in her sixth run of the game scoring pinch-runner Macy Gill before Maddie Houlihan scored Ellee Jensen. Kendyl Lindaman, who did not have an official at-bat all day after being walked seven times, scored off a Dwyer single. Parlich drove in two of her three runs in the series connecting on a two-run single to left giving the Gophers a 7-0 lead.
In the sixth, Brandt entered the circle working efficiently allowing one hit and three strikeouts.
Minnesota completed their third-consecutive conference sweep as Brandt's sacrifice fly to right scored Wagner ending the game in early fashion.
