The Huff brothers become the first ever Gophers to earn All-Smile honors four years in a row

If you ask any player on the Gopher football team they would likely tell you that no feeling compares to gameday, but there is one offseason day that comes close: headshot day.

Each year nervous Gopher football players step up to get their photo taken with the hopes of making one of the coveted All-Headshot Teams. This year we are excited to announce the All-Hair Team, All-Smile Team, All-Game Face Team and, most prestigious of them all, the All-Beard Team.

The anticipation of these announcements has dominated conversations among Gopher football players and fans for weeks. Our panel of experts has sweated and debated for days at a time, sometimes foregoing sleep altogether. Today we are excited to introduce you to the 2018 All-Smile Team.

This year's First Team brings back Antoine Winfield Jr. for a third straight season along with first-time honorees Antonio Shenault, O.J. Smith and true freshman Preston Jelen.

The Second Team features the first ever four-time honorees in twin brothers Jacob Huff and Julian Huff along with second-time honoree Coney Durr and Paul Gossage who earned the nod for the first time in his career.

"It means a lot for me making the All-Smile Team because my parents spent a lot of money on these pearls," Winfield said. "Money can't buy you happiness but it can buy you a great smile."

Each player steps up to the headshot chair with a choice, smile or game face? For Smith, the choice was easy.

"Smile and joke as much as you can while you still have teeth," he said inspired by a quote he found online.

Shenault is no stranger to an All-Headshot Team even though this is his first All-Smile accolade. He groomed a beard going into his junior season but ran into stiff competition for that honor this season.

"Completely understandable. As long as I have one under my belt, I'm happy," Shenault said. "I would describe my smile as one that only a mother and apparently a football team could love."

The Huff brothers have been a dominant force in the All-Smile category year after year.

"It's easier to smile than frown," Jacob said. "Julian and I have identical smiles because we are identical twins. Only makes sense that we are both on here."

Julian disagrees on the second part of Jacob's statement.

"He doesn't brush his teeth. I don't know how he made it," Julian quipped.

Three true freshmen made the All-Hair Team yesterday and Jelen nabbed an impressive spot on the  All-Smile First Team team today but could not be reached for comment. He is most likely too busy keeping his smile shining bright.
