Gophers and Twins Team Up to Celebrate Rob Fornasiere Day

MINNEAPOLIS – Sunday, August 5, 2018 will be Rob Fornasiere Day at Target Field, celebrating the career of the recently retired University of Minnesota assistant coach, as the Minnesota Twins take on the Kansas City Royals. All Gopher Baseball alumni are welcome to join Coach Fornasiere on the field for a pregame ceremony before he throws out the first pitch ahead of the 1:10 p.m. game.
Fornasiere spent the past 33 seasons on the staff of head coach John Anderson including the last 22 as the assistant head coach, helping lead the Gophers to the NCAA Super Regional for the first time in 2018 before making his retirement official earlier this month. The 2008 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Assistant Coach of the Year joined the Maroon & Gold in 1985 after five seasons as the head coach at Normandale Community College. During his career at Minnesota, Fornasiere helped guide the Gophers to nine Big Ten Regular Season titles, eight Big Ten Tournament titles, and 17 NCAA Tournament appearances. This year, he joins Anderson in earning a selection to the Minnesota High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame despite never coaching at the high school ranks. That ceremony will take place this October.
Gopher Baseball alumni can purchase tickets in a group section and RSVP for the pregame ceremony by contacting Lee Swenson, Director of Baseball Operations by email at swens060@umn.edu or phone at 612-625-0869.
