Gophers Announce 2018 Novice Tryout Dates

7/20/2018 11:13:00 AM | Rowing

MINNEAPOLIS – The Gopher Rowing program has announced the dates and times for this year's novice and first-year tryouts. Coach Jeff Forrester took over the reins of Minnesota's novice program earlier this summer after seven years working with the men's lightweight program at MIT.

Prospective student-athletes are encouraged to attend one of two informational meetings on Monday, Sept. 3 (Labor Day) at 2:30 p.m. or 4:30 p.m.  or Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 2:30 p.m. at the Irene Claudia Kroll Boathouse with tryouts scheduled for the following dates and times:
  • Thursday, Sept. 6, 2:30-4 p.m. and 4:30-6 p.m.
  • Friday, Sept. 7, 2:30-4 p.m. and 4:30-6 p.m.
  • Saturday, Sept. 8, 9-11 a.m.
Student athletes do not need prior experience as a rower, though an athletic background is encouraged as is height (Generally, rowing athletes are 5-9 or taller). Everyone must provide proof of a physical no older than six months and sign each of the waivers available on the Gophers novice page, providing them to the coaches via email, at the informational meeting, or on the first day of practice. Athletes must turn in the documents before they can try out for the team.
