Recent Gopher alum Joel Gagnon was in the mix with the top level Canadian gymnasts this weekend competing at the Canadian Gymnastics World Trials.
Gagnon wrapped up the two-day competition in Montreal with an impressive 14.100 on floor Sunday afternoon. Gagnon was vying for one of six coveted spots to compete in the 2018 World Gymnastics Championships. He competed vault, parallel bars, high bar and floor and hit on seven of his eight routines. The competition will be held between October 25 – November 3, 2018, at the Aspire Academy Dome in Doha, Qatar. The selection committee is expected to make their team announcement within a week from today.
"What a great weekend for Joel at the Canadian World Team Trials," head coach Mike Burns said. "He looked solid throughout and helped put his name in the mix as a potential member of the team."
Gagnon hit on all four his routines on the first day of competition highlighted by a 13.300 on floor and a 13.000 on high bar, both good for fourth on day one. He went 13.450 on p-bars on day two and had the top score of the day on floor with a 14.100.
