Gophers Welcome Ole Miss and Washington State to Begin Seven Match Home Stand

MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota soccer is set to open up the home portion of their schedule on Friday, August 24 as they host Ole Miss at 6 p.m. The Gophers continue the seven-match home stand against No. 22 Washington State on Sunday, August 26 at 1 p.m.
WEEKEND PROMOTIONS
Friday kicks off the home portion of the 2018 schedule. The first 200 fans to walk through the gates will receive a maroon Gopher Soccer Shirtsey (a jersey t-shirt) to celebrate the Gophers new kits. On Sunday the Gophers will host Pups on the Pitch as we welcome all our four legged friends to the Robbie. The first 100 pups in attendance will receive a Frisbee. Following the conclusion of Sunday's match the Gopher student-athletes will be signing autographs.
FRESHMEN, FRESHMEN DO SOMETHING CRAZY
A pair of freshmen were the highlight of the Gophers' dramatic finishes this past weekend netting the game-winners as well as their first collegiate goals. Patricia Ward found the back of the net with 11 seconds remaining to lift the Gophers past Utah in the season opener, 1-0. McKenna Buisman headed the winner in a 2-1 comeback victory over Utah State in the 77th minute after a perfectly crossed ball from TJ McKendrick.

Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium has not seen to many losses during the Stefanie Golan era that began during the 2012 season. During the stretch the Gophers have posted a winning home record each year going 41-14-9 (.711) during the six season stretch.
BOCKIN IT DOWN
Tallying an assist in Friday's match against Utah, senior April Bockin now has 21 career assists which moves her up to eighth all-time in program history. Bockin on top of the assists has 13 career goals, which leads all active Minnesota players, and 47 career points.
SERIES HISTORY
Friday's meeting between Ole Miss and Minnesota will be the third meeting all-time. The series is knotted at one apiece with the Gophers winning the first meeting back on September 8, 2013 with a 2-1 OT victory at ELR. The Rebels took the second meeting 3-2 in double OT on September 5, 2014.
Minnesota leads the all-time series against Washington State at 2-1-1. The last time Washington State visited Minneapolis was on September 7, 1997 where the Gophers won 3-2. Â Minnesota has not scored a goal in the last two meetings following last year's 0-0 tie in Pullman. Wash, despite outshooting the Cougars 14-9 in the affair. The Gophers hold a narrow 7-6 scoring margin in the all-time series.
