Gopher Trio Recognized by Big Ten

MINNEAPOLIS – Three members of the Minnesota men's golf team were recognized Wednesday by the Big Ten Conference as the 2018-19 season approaches.
Junior Thomas Longbella and sophomores Angus Flanagan and Evan Long were among the 42 student-athletes named to the "Golfers to Watch List" by the league.
Longbella, who appears on the list for the second straight year, competed in 10 tournaments last season for the Golden Gophers and was fourth on the squad with a 74.04 scoring average for the year. His best performance came last fall with he tied for ninth at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate as he finished three-under par.
Competing in all 11 tournaments a year ago, Flanagan finished second on the squad for the season with a 73.22 scoring average. In the fall portion of the schedule alone, no one had a better scoring average than Flanagan's 71.75. He led the team with eight rounds under par for the year and was tied for the most tournaments as the team's top finisher, doing so on three occasions. In just the second tournament of his collegiate career, Flanagan came in fifth at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate after finishing four strokes under par.
A native of New Castle, Pa., Long competed in eight events last season for Minnesota and tallied a season scoring average of 76.43. Long's top finish came at the SJU Fall Invitational where he tied for 18th place.
Ten tournaments during the regular season highlight the Minnesota men's golf team's 2018-19 schedule, which was announced earlier this month. The fall season begins Sept. 9-10 with the 14th annual Gopher Invitational at Windsong Farm Golf Club.
