Minnesota Earns a 3-0 Sweep Over Arkansas to go Undefeated in Diet Coke Classic

The No. 3 University of Minnesota volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-19 and 25-18) win over the University of Arkansas to go undefeated at the 2018 Diet Coke Classic Tournament. The Gophers improve to 5-0 on the season while Arkansas is now 3-2.
Tournament MVP Regan Pittman had a team high of 12 kills while hitting .550. Stephanie Samedy and Jasmyn Martin followed with nine kills each. Samantha Seliger-Swenson, who was named to the all-tournament team, had 31 assists in the three-set victory. CC McGraw and Adanna Rollins both put up 10 digs, while Rollins also earned a spot on the all-tournament team. Taylor Morgan had a team leading eight blocks. The Gophers hit .327 with 40 kills and 47 digs en route to the win. The Razorbacks had 40 kills and 48 digs while only hitting .124. Minnesota put up nine blocks to Arkansas's two and a half.
The Gophers are back in action when they take on Oregon and Stanford during the Big Ten/Pac 12 Challenge, September 7 and 9 in Palo, Alto, Calif.
Set Breakdown:
Set 1: The Gophers opened the match hitting .389 when they had 15 kills, committed just one error and had 36 attempts. Minnesota went up, 14-9, off an Arkansas attack error, which forced the Razorbacks to call a timeout. The Gophers, however, went on a 5-1 run after the first timeout. Pittman pushed the score to 19-10 as Arkansas called its second timeout. Minnesota later added to its lead and took a 23-12 advantage off a Martin kill. The Gophers closed out the set at 25-15 after Arkansas had a service error.
Set 2: Minnesota continued its attack efficiency as it hit .324 in the second for a 25-19 win. Regan Pittman added a kill for the 7-3 point, while Martin won a joust at the net for a 9-4 lead. The Razorbacks took a timeout at 11-4 after Rollins served up an ace and Arkansas had an attack error. Minnesota went up 16-7 off a kill from Taylor Morgan. After the Razorbacks went on a 5-0 run as the Gophers called their first timeout as their lead dwindled to an 18-13, five point lead. The Gophers got a side out at 19-14 as Morgan delivered her third kill of the night. Adanna Rollins added a kill for a 21-16 lead, followed by a Martin kill for the 23-18 point. A block from Seliger-Swenson/Morgan pushed it to set point, while Martin added a kill at 25-19.
Set 3: The Gophers closed out the match with a 25-18 third set win. Minnesota opened with a 6-2 lead, only to have Arkansas tie up the set at 9-9. Tied at 10-10, Minnesota went on a 7-1 run as Samedy had her eighth kill. Pittman added the Gophers' 20th point off an overpass, followed by a kill at 22-16. The Gophers had two kills from Martin and a block from Samedy/Morgan to close out the match and the Diet Coke Classic.
