Minneapolis – The University of Minnesota Wrestling program have announced the dates for their fall coaches clinic and open practice.

On Friday, Oct., 26, Gopher wrestling will hold their annual coaches' clinic at Maturi Pavilion.

The clinic is available for coaches, fans and wrestlers of all ages. Leading the clinic will be Gopher head coach Brandon Eggum and assistant coaches Luke Becker and Trevor Brandvold. Special guest instructors will include Nazar Kulchytskyy and strength coach Scott McWilliams.

Kulchytskyy will lead the group in two separate technique sessions throughout the afternoon. Originally from Sosnivka, Ukraine, Kulchytskyy was a member of the Cadet Ukrainian World Team in 2008, and took bronze at the European Championships. At the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh, Kulchytskyy was a three-time national champion and established an overall record of 143-5. In his senior season with the Titans, Nazar led UW-Oshkosh to a tenth place finish at the NCAA Championships and was named the 2014 Wrestler of the Year by D3wrestle.com.

Scott McWilliams, assistant director of athletic performance, will later instruct the group on proper strength and conditioning tactics. McWilliams oversees all aspects of strength and conditioning for gopher wrestling and baseball and is the department's internship program coordinator.

Assistant coach Trevor Brandvold will lead the group in a final technique session prior to the viewing of an official Gopher Wrestling practice.

The clinic will conclude with all participants invited to a Gopher football tailgate.

Open Practice

The following morning all Gopher wrestling fans will get their first peak at the 2018-19 squad as Minnesota will host an open doors practice at Maturi Pavilion on Oct., 27. The practice will begin with weigh-ins at 9 a.m. and wrestling starting at 10 a.m.

The open practice will showcase the team and their typical warm-up, drills and will include more live wrestling than a day-to-day workout to enable fans to see more of their favorite wrestlers in action. During the session, each wrestler will partake in three matches against their Maroon & Gold teammates to simulate a tournament environment.

Eggum will take this opportunity to address fans and provide his insight into the team, the upcoming season and what Gopher fans have to look forward to for the 2018-19 season.

Fans do not need to RSVP to attend this practice and it is free to the public. Seating will be at a first-served basis. Fans are advised to either find free parking on surface streets in the surrounding neighborhoods, or pay to park in ramps around Maturi Pavilion. Fans should enter Maturi Pavilion as if they were attending a normal wrestling event.
