MINNEAPOLIS – Fans eager to get their first look at the Minnesota women's basketball program under first-year head coach Lindsay Whalen will have that opportunity on Oct. 20 at the Maroon and Gold Showcase.
Free and open to the public, the Golden Gophers will take the floor at Williams Arena in a game-like setting and competitive drills against the male scout team they regularly face in practice. The event is scheduled to run from 1-3 p.m. with doors opening at noon. After the game, Whalen will briefly address the crowd and then be available for autographs along with the Golden Gopher student-athletes. In addition, a few of Whalen's former Minnesota Lynx teammates will be making special appearances at the Showcase.
A select number of concession stands will also be open during the event.
Fans headed to campus this weekend for athletic events should plan accordingly and allow extra time. The Minnesota Department of Transportation has announced that it will shut down both directions of Interstate 35W, between Highway 62 (Crosstown) and I-94. Fans are encouraged to seek alternate routes or utilize Metro Transit light rail and buses to reach campus. Once on campus, fans are encouraged to park in the University Ave. Ramp or in lot C-58. Entrances on both University Ave. and Oak Street will both be open for admittance
Those who selected the women's basketball preseason event through the Gopher Loyalty Program can also receive exclusive benefits during the event and should check in at the Oak Street entrance.
The 2018-19 season begins for Minnesota on Friday, Nov. 9 at 8 p.m. against New Hampshire. Tickets for the home opener are on sale now for just $5 for Zones 1 and 2 and just $1 for seats in Zone 3. Fans can purchase tickets online at GopherSports.com or by calling 612-624-8080.
