Gophers Set to Host Maryland on Saturday

GOPHERS SET TO FACE MARYLAND   
The University of Minnesota continues Big Ten Conference action Saturday, Sept. 22, when it hosts the Maryland Terrapins at 6:30 p.m.

The Minnesota match vs. Maryland will be shown on Big Ten Plus. A Game Day Live page will also be located on gophersports.com.

UNITED GAME ON CAMPUS
Gopher fans, the Minnesota United are scheduled to have a game at TCF Bank Stadium at 7 p.m. With that being said, parking will be an additional cost ($15-20). Fans are encouraged to park in Lot 37 or in 4th Ave Ramp. 

GOPHERS' LAST ACTION
Minnesota opened the Big Ten Conference season with a straight-set win over No. 4 Penn State in front of a sold out 5,450 crowd. Stephanie Samedy led the team with 14 kills, 40 attempts, a team-best five blocks and added a double-double with 10 digs. Adanna Rollins followed with 13 kills and 11 digs for her first career double-double, and hit .303. Samantha Seliger-Swenson had 40 assists and a team-best 16 digs. Minnesota had five individuals with double-digit digs. Along with the three double-doubles, Lauren Barnes had 13 digs, while CC McGraw had 12.   

ABOUT MARYLAND    
Maryland is set to open up Big Ten play earlier this week and gained a 3-0 win over Rutgers. The Terrapins, 10-3 overall, 1-0 in Big Ten, competed in the Temple Invitational this last weekend where they went 2-1. Erika Pritchard leads the team with 196 kills, averaging 4.26 kills per set, followed by Liz Twilley who has 124 kills (2.80 per set) and Jada Gardner with 91 (2.12 per set). Allegra Rivas heads up the defense with 207 digs (4.49 per set) and Katie Meyers has a team-best 50 blocks. Setter Nicole Alford is averaging 10.26 assists per set and has 472 total heading into the Minnesota match. As a team, the Terps are hitting .248 and average 13.22 kills per set and 2.26 blocks per set. 

ALL-TIME SERIES  
Minnesota is 10-0 all-time against the Terps, with the first meeting dating back to 1986. Since Maryland joined the Big Ten Conference in 2014, Minnesota holds a 7-0 record. The Gophers and Terrapins have played each other just once in both the 2016 and 2017 seasons. 

ON THE DOCKET    
Minnesota ends its recent home stand with a match against border rival Wisconsin, Wednesday Sept. 26, at 8 p.m. The match is televised on Big Ten Network. The Gophers hit the road to Bloomington, Ind., to take on the Indiana Hoosiers, Saturday, Sept. 29.

FRESHMEN IMPACT    
Minnesota has two freshmen who are making their mark already this season in outside hitter Adanna Rollins and libero CC McGraw. Both have see action in 30 sets for the Golden Gophers and have started in all nine matches. Rollins averages 1.97 kills per set, while McGraw averages 3.67 digs per set in their young Gophers careers.
