Sheehy, Pitlick Named to B1G Watch List

MINNEAPOLIS – Gopher Hockey forwards Tyler Sheehy and Rem Pitlick have been named to the 2018-19 Big Ten Preseason Watch List ahead of the upcoming season while Minnesota finds itself ranked fourth in the 2018-19 Big Ten Preseason Poll, the conference announced on Monday.
The Big Ten's three Frozen Four participants last year landed poll rankings ahead of the Maroon & Gold with Ohio State projected to finish first, Michigan to finish second and Notre Dame to finish third. Behind the Gophers are Penn State in fifth, Wisconsin in sixth and Michigan State in seventh.
A native of Burnsville, Minn., Sheehy enters his senior season at Minnesota having played in 111 career games with 108 career points (44 goals, 64 assists) – the forward is tied for second among active NCAA skaters in career points. Sheehy was named a First Team All-American, the Big Ten Player of the Year and a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award in 2017.
A native of Plymouth, Minn., Pitlick led the Maroon & Gold in scoring as a sophomore last year with 31 points (12 goals, 19 assists) while the forward also tied for the team goal lead. The Nashville Predators prospect has recorded 63 points (26 goals, 37 assists) in 74 career games at Minnesota including a rookie campaign in 2016-17 that Pitlick earn Big Ten All-Freshman Team honors.
The 98th season of Gopher men's hockey will see the Maroon & Gold take the ice for the first time under new head coach Bob Motzko, who returns to the University of Minnesota after helping the program claim back-to-back national championships in 2002 and 2003 as an assistant coach. Minnesota opens the season against the defending national champions in Minnesota Duluth with a home-and-home series (Oct. 6-7).
