MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota and Gopher Athletics is proud to host the 33rd annual Roy Griak Invitational this Saturday, Sept. 29 at Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights, Minn. Gophers Win First Two Races of the Year
The University of Minnesota men's cross country program enters the Griak Invitational having won both of its competitions to start the season. The Maroon & Gold cruised to the team title at the Oz Memorial with 24 points on Sept. 7 with Owen Hoeft's runner-up finish leading the way (all five Gophers scorers finished in the top 10). Minnesota followed that up with a team title and an individual crown at Nebraska's Dirksen/Greeno Invite two weeks ago as the team combined for 33 points while Alec Basten picked up his first career victory. With no Big Ten teams in action last weekend, Basten enters the Roy Griak Invitational as the defending Big Ten Athlete of the Week after running a personal eight-kilometer record of 24:17.5. The Dirksen/Greeno Invite also served as a preview for next month's Big Ten Championships.
