Gophers Sweep Hoosiers On the Road

The No. 6 University of Minnesota volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep over Indiana, tonight in Bloomington, Ind. Minnesota (10-2 overall, 4-0 in Big Ten), defeated the Hoosiers, 25-21, 25-19, 25-14. The Golden Gophers have not dropped a set now in five matches.
Four Gophers added double-digit kills. Taylor Morgan hit .923 when she had 12 kills in 13 attempts and added two blocks. That hitting clip was also a career high for Morgan. Adanna Rollins also added 12 kills and hit .310 with eight digs. Stephanie Samedy had 11 kills, hit .304 and had a team-best three blocks. Alexis Hart also had 10 kills and hit .318. Lauren Barnes had three aces and 12 digs. Samantha Seliger-Swenson had a team-best 13 digs and completed the double-double with 36 assists.
Set 1: The Gophers fought off an Indiana comeback to win the first set, 25-21. Minnesota took a 5-1 lead off back-to-back kills from Morgan. She and Samedy combined for a block as the Gophers took a 7-3 lead. A Samedy kill at 9-4 forced Indiana to call a timeout. Minnesota later pushed the score to 15-7 off a Hart kill, while Morgan put the Gophers up, 17-9 off a Morgan kill. That point caused Indiana to use its second timeout. An attack error after a long rally gave the Gophers their 20th point, while a block from Rollins and Pittman pushed the lead to 23-13. Minnesota, however, finished off the set with a Samedy kill to go up, 1-0.
Set 2: Minnesota hit .438 in the second set to win it, 25-19. Minnesota jumped out to a 4-1 lead, but Indiana came back to tie the set at 8-8. The two teams traded points through 12-12 before Minnesota rattled off three-straight for a 15-12 lead as Indiana called a timeout. The Gophers, however, added an additional two for a 17-12 lead off a Rollins kill. The Gophers pushed the score to 20-16 as Indiana called its second timeout. A Hart kill put it at set point, while Morgan added a kill for a 2-0 lead.
Set 3: The Gophers opened the third set with a 7-2 lead as Indiana called a timeout. Minnesota went up 13-8 off a kill from Samedy and Morgan added a kill for the 14-9 point.
