Gophers Defeat Rainbow Warriors at Dual Meet

Both the men and women's University of Minnesota swim teams claimed the win in tonight's dual meet against the Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors. The men finished the night with 158 points over Hawai'i's 104 while the women won their meet 145 to 118.

The women recorded 10 first-place finishes including one in the 200-yard Medley Relay in which the A relay team swam a 1:41.09 to take the top spot. Zoe Avestruz (50 FR, 100 FR), Rachel Munson (100 BR, 200 BR), Chantal Nack (200 FR, 500 FR) and Tevyn Waddell (100 BK, 200 BK) each notched a pair of event wins. Abbey Erwin swam a 2:05.63 in the 200 FLY to round out the first-place finishes for the Gophers.

The men's team leaves the meet with eight first-place finishes under their belt. Max McHugh (100 BR, 200 BR) and Bowen Becker (50 FR, 100 FR) both took home two event wins. Nick Plachinski won the 1000 FR with a time of 9:23.10 while Tim Sates swam the 200 FR in 1:39.58 to take the event. Matt Thomas came first in the 200 Fly after touching the wall in 1:50.14 and Cameron Kelley won the 500 FR with his time of 4:30.80.

Other Notable Performances for the Women

-Abbey Kilgallon (10:05.50), Erwin (10:22.64) and Olivia Johnston (10:33.43) took second, third and fourth respectively in the 1000 FR. 
-Kate Sullivan claimed second in the 200 FR with her time of 1:51.59, coming in only behind Nack. 
-Sullivan also took fourth in the 200 FLY with her time of 2:06.87, getting beat out by Kaia Grobe who came in at 2:06.71. 
-Kilgallon and Erwin took third and fourth in the 500 FR after swimming a 4:58.84 and a 5:02.32 respectively.

Other Notable Performance for the Men

-The Gophers A relay team came in second in the 200-yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:29.16 and the B relay team swam a 1:32.65 to take third. 
-Kristian Hansen finished third in the 1000 FR and teammates Aiden Dillon and Aiden Dulaney took fourth and fifth respectively.
-The Minnesota men swept the 200 FR as Sates, Tuomas Pokkinen, Kyle Van Niekerk and Kelley claimed the fop four spots in the race.
-Eitan Yudashkin finished third in the 100 BR with a time of 56.95 and second in the 200 BR with his time of 2:02.88
-Sates touched the wall in 45.70 to take third-place in the 100 FR.
-Plachinski followed up his earlier first-place finish by taking second in the 500 FR after swimming the event in 4:34.57.
-The Gophers took second, third and fourth in the 100 FLY when Pokkinen swam a 48.92, Thomas raced a 49.05, and Tom Donker finished the event in 49.26.

Both Gophers teams will be back in action on Jan. 18 when they travel to Los Angeles, Calif. to take on USC and Oregon State in a triple dual next Friday.
