STARTING FIVE
• The Minnesota men's basketball team returns to the road to face Illinois in the first of two meetings between the teams in a 14-day span. The Gophers are looking to win back-to-back Big Ten road games for the second time in three years after it had not been done since 2012.
• Five games into the conference season, junior guard Amir Coffey is leading the Big Ten averaging 23.4 points per game in Big Ten contests, two points higher than the next player (Carsen Edwards - Purdue, 21.4) Coffey has reached double figures in each of the Gophers five Big Ten games, including a career-high 32 points against Nebraska. Coffey has been the team's leading scorer in every conference game this season.
• All five Minnesota starters are averaging double figures, the only Big Ten squad that has five starters scoring 10 or more points per game. Included in that group are Amir Coffey (16.4) and Jordan Murphy (14.6), who rank among the top-20 in the conference at 12th and 17th, respectively.
• Senior forward Jordan Murphy became the 10th player in Big Ten history with 1,500+ points and 1,000+ career rebounds. Additionally, Murphy broke Jim Brewer's 45-year old school record when he scored 18 points and 13 rebounds against Nebraska for his 52nd career double-double. Murphy is third in the nation in rebounding (12.1) and is ninth in double-doubles (10) this season, as of Jan. 14.
SCOUTING THE FIGHTING ILLINI
• Illinois is searching for its first conference victory of the season, and has lost five straight dating back to late December.
• Trent Frazier leads the Illini in points (14.7), assists (47) and steals (27), one of three Illinois players to average double figures.
