Rowing in San Diego 2019

Gophers Achieve Rare Feat in San Diego Training

1/21/2019 8:27:00 AM | Rowing

The Gopher Rowing team set out for preseason training in San Diego last week, but the fun did not only come in seeing growth on and off the water.

Last Thursday, Minnesota achieved a rare feat in the rowing community when team rigger Martha Brummitt water-skied behind an 8-person crew. The team caught video which was shared on its official Instagram. Never has this feat been documented by an all-women's crew, let alone with a woman skiing as well.

The San Diego trip also included a rainbow above the novice team's practice, sunset yoga on mission beach, and plenty of growth and team bonding as the Gophers prepare for the second half of the season.

Minnesota returns to southern California for their first action of the spring season early next month when they take on San Diego State in a scrimmage on Saturday, Feb. 9.
