All-Around with Tiarre Sales

Entering her second season in the Maroon and Gold, Tiarre Sales has found her groove as a Minnesota gymnast. After having a great freshman campaign, earning Second Team All-Big Ten honors and competing at the NCAA Regional Finals, the sophomore is looking to be even better this season. Taking what she learned from last season, the Henderson, Nev. native has her sights set on making a floor comeback and earning a spot in the all-around lineup.
Gopher Sports: How have you grown since your freshman season?
Tiarre Sales: I feel like I have gotten more confident in myself and have adjusted to being in a more team-centered atmosphere. The transition from club to college is going from individual to a team atmosphere. I feel like I have matured and have learned a lot more about myself.
GS: What are you most looking forward to this year?
TS: I am looking forward to competing. I am hopefully making a floor comeback this season, I have started training it again. I am also excited to see the success the team will have this year.
GS: What was it like competing at the NCAA Regional Finals as a freshman last season?
TS: It was really exciting and nerve racking. At first, I was all over the place, but my teammates helped calm me down and gave me a lot of confidence. They had so much trust in me, I thought to myself "If they are trusting me to do this, then I need to have trust in myself." It took me by surprise, especially being at LSU with the huge crowd. It was a lot different than many of the other venues we had competed at previously. The energy helped me go out there and have fun.
GS: Did you get any advice from your teammates or coaches before you went out at Regionals?
TS: Lexy Ramler has this saying of "We thrive under pressure" and that has become something we say to each other now. Whenever I feel nervous, I'll look at her and say "We thrive under pressure."
GS: What is your favorite part about being on this team?
TS: My teammates. They are so weird and silly, so it always makes things fun and entertaining.
GS: What do you like to do outside of school and gymnastics?
TS: I like to go shopping, watch movies and try new places to eat
GS: What are some goals you have set for yourself this season?
TS: Deciding on a major. I also want to make First Team All-Big Ten and make lineup for all-around.
