Minnesota will host a Mental Health Awareness Game on Saturday, Oct. 26

The University of Minnesota football team will host a Mental Health Awareness game when it welcomes Maryland to TCF Bank Stadium for a 2:30 p.m. game on Saturday, Oct. 26.

The Gophers will partner with well-known speaker and author Rachel Baribeau for the game. Baribeau, who will attend the game, has spoken to head coach P.J. Fleck and the Minnesota football team each of the last three years and is an advocate for mental health awareness.

"Mental health is one of the most important topics in today's society and it should be one of the most talked about as well," said Coach Fleck. "We want our young people to grow every day athletically, academically, socially and spiritually and it is their mental health that allows them to do so. I am grateful that President Joan Gabel and Athletic Director Mark Coyle value the importance of mental health and are supportive of this cause. I am also thankful for Rachel Baribeau's friendship and for her willingness to 'take the mask off' and be an advocate for mental health awareness."

Minnesota will warm up in t-shirts that champion the cause I'm Changing The Narrative, which is a Baribeau rallying call to remind people "to take off the mask and get real with each other."

The Gophers will also wear a green ribbon on their helmets, as green is the color of mental health awareness.

There will also be an in-game video played that will focus on destigmatizing mental health, and it will also be shared on social media. Additional information can also be found in the free game program, which will be distributed at TCF Bank Stadium and available online.

"There is no more progressive coach in the country than Coach P.J. Fleck, when it comes to the total wellness of his players, coaches and staff," said Baribeau. "He has put such an emphasis on mental health. I am honored to partner with him and the University of Minnesota to destroy the stigma around mental health and save lives."
