Gophers Have Two in Top 25 at Tavistock Collegiate

MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota men's golf team has two individuals in the top 25, but it slipped down the team leaderboard after Monday's second round of the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational in Windermere, Fla.
Alone in fifth place following Sunday's even-par opening round at Isleworth Golf And Country Club, the Golden Gophers combined to shoot a 12-over 300 Monday to move down to 13th at 588 through 36 holes. Tournament co-host UCF holds a commanding lead at 21-under-par, while No. 6 Texas Tech and Vanderbilt are tied for second place at 4-under.
Cal's Finigan Tilly sits atop the individual leaderboard at 7-under, and three golfers are tied for second place behind him at 6-under.
For the Gophers, junior Angus Flanagan is the team's top golfer as he sits in a three-way tie for 17th at 1-under (143) for the tournament. However, his streak of consecutive rounds under par end came to an end at nine with a 1-over 73. The streak dated back to the second round of the Maui Jim Intercollegiate, included all 54 holes at both the Macdonald Cup and Jerry Pate Intercollegiate, and continued through Sunday's opening round.
Monday, Flanagan made the turn at 3-over but played the back nine at 2-under. He birdied No. 11 but gave the shot back with a bogey on No. 14. He ended on a positive note, though, with birdies on two of the final three holes.
Joining Flanagan in the top 25 is freshman Connor Glynn, who is one of seven golfers tied for 24th at 1-over (145) through 36 holes. Glynn carded a 2-over 74 Monday going 1-over on both the front and back nines. He bogeyed the second and third holes but ended that streak with a birdie on No. 4. After eight straight pars he alternated bogey-birdie-double-birdie between holes 13-16 to leave him at 2-over.
A trio of sophomores rounded out the Gophers' group.
Will Grevlos dropped to a tie for 54th and is six shots over par through 36 holes after a 5-over 77 Monday. Lincoln Johnson is two shots back of him at 8-over following a six-over 78 to tie for 62nd, while Harry Plowman-Ollington had his round count toward the team score for the first time this season with a 4-over 76 to leave him at 14-over and tied for 74th.
Minnesota will close out the Tavistock Collegiate and the fall season Tuesday with Plowman-Ollington teeing off at 8:15 a.m. CT.
