Pittman Produces Career-High Match in Win Over Spartans

Regan Pittman posted a career-best 19 kills and 30 attempts to lead the No. 7 University of Minnesota volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Michigan State, today in East Lansing, Mich. Minnesota won the first two sets, 25-21, 25-20, lost the third, 26-28, and won the fourth, 25-18. With the win, the Golden Gophers improve to 15-3 overall and 9-1 in the Big Ten.
Along with her 19 kills, Pittman hit .484, had five blocks and three aces in the win. Alexis Hart followed with 10 kills, while Taylor Morgan added seven. Bayley McMenimen had 37 assists, while Stephanie Samedy had a team-best 11 digs.
As a team, Minnesota hit .207 to MSU's .173, despite MSU holding a 55-49 kill lead. The Gophers posted 12 blocks in the match, compared to MSU's 10.

Pittman's previous career high was 17, set against North Carolina, Aug. 25, 2018.

How they won the set:
First Set: Minnesota opened the match with a 6-1 lead and later built a double-digit lead en route to a 25-21 set win. The Gophers hit .312 in the opening set and despite a late comeback attempt by MSU, te Gophers held the lead from the get-go.
Second Set: Trailing by one at 19-20, Minnesota went on a 6-0 run late in the second set for a 25-20 finish. In that span, the Gophers had two kills and a block from Pittman as MSU committed three errors.
Third Set: Despite overcoming an early deficit, Michigan State cut the Gopher lead to 2-1 when it won the third, 28-26. After a McMenimen kill at 26-26, MSU added a kill, while the Gophers had an attack error for the MSU set win.
Fourth Set: Minnesota opened with a 6-1 lead as MSU called a timeout. However, the Gophers poured on the pressure and took a 19-9 lead off back-to-back aces from McGraw.
