GOPHERS HOST OHIO STATE WEDNESDAY
Minnesota has home and away competition coming up this week when it hosts Ohio State, Wednesday, and travels for a Sunday tilt at Purdue. The Golden Gophers face the Buckeyes at 7 p.m., at Maturi Pavilion. Sunday's match against the Boilermakers is set for a 12 p.m., CT start in West Lafayette, Ind.

Wednesday's match against Ohio State will be streamed on BTN +. Minnesota's Sunday match against Purdue will be televised on ESPN2. Both matches will have game day central pages available on gophersports.com. 

ABOUT OHIO STATE    
Ohio State enters the Minnesota match with an 11-11 overall record and 4-6 in conference play. The Buckeyes most recently lost to No. 17 Illinois in straight sets. Jenaisya Moore leads OSU with 152 kills, followed by Elle Sandbothe and Mia Grunze with 149 kills each. Lauren Witte and Sandbothe lead the team in blocks, recording 53 and 52 respectively. Witt also has 19 aces. Becca Mauer offers up 451 assists, and Mac Podraza has 365. Kylie Murr adds a team-best 386 digs. As a team, the Buckeyes are hitting .200 and average 13.47 kills per set.


ALL-TIME SERIES
The Gophers are 44-36 all-time against the Buckeyes, dating back to 1975. The Gophers faced OSU once last season. Minnesota and Ohio State competed in the final match of historic St. John Arena as the Gophers won in five. It also solidified Minnesota's Big Ten championship last year. 

GOPHER VOLLEYBALL MOURNS THE LOSS OF HEBERT    
University of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletics is saddened to learn of the passing of legendary Hall of Fame volleyball coach, Mike Hebert. Surrounded by his family, Hebert passed away on Oct. 21, 2019, in San Diego, Calif., at the age of 75.
    Hebert was a volleyball head coach for 35 years and led the Gophers for 15. During his Minnesota career from 1996-2010, he brought the Golden Gophers onto the national stage and collegiate volleyball prominence. Hebert retired from coaching in 2010 with a 381-137 record at Minnesota. While at the helm of the Gophers, he won more than 75 percent of his games and led Minnesota to 14 NCAA tournament appearances, eight NCAA Regional trips, three Final Fours and a Big Ten championship in 2002. Minnesota also reached the NCAA championship game in 2004. A moment of silence will occur prior to Wednesday's match, while a tribute to him will be done during the intermission. 

ON THE DOCKET    
The Gophers stay on the road the following week when it travels to Maryland and Ohio State, Nov. 8 and 10. Both matches will be streamed on BTN +. 

LAST MATCH RECAP
Regan Pittman posted a career-best 19 kills and 30 attempts to lead Minnesota to a 3-1 win over Michigan State, Sunday in East Lansing, Mich. Minnesota won the first two sets, 25-21, 25-20, lost the third, 26-28, and won the fourth, 25-18. Alexis Hart followed with 10 kills, while Taylor Morgan added seven. Bayley McMenimen had 37 assists, while Stephanie Samedy had a team-best 11 digs. As a team, Minnesota hit .207 to MSU's .173, despite MSU holding a 55-49 kill lead. The Gophers posted 12 blocks in the match, compared to MSU's 10.

DID YOU KNOW?     
Minnesota had 11 aces in the match against Michigan State last week. In fact, on the weekend the Gophers had 18. The last time Minnesota had 10 or more was on Nov. 17, 2018, when the Gophers had 10 against Ohio State. 

PITTMAN GARNERS B1G WEEKLY AWARD                
Regan Pittman was named the Big Ten's Defensive Player of the Week after her stellar performance at Michigan and Michigan State last weekend. It marks the second award this season for Pittman and the team's ninth honor this year. 
    Pittman, a 6-foot, 5-inch middle blocker, posted career-highs in both matches last weekend in a pair of wins at Michigan and Michigan State. On Friday against the Wolverines, she tallied a career-best 11 blocks when she had one solo and 10 block assists. She also provided 10 kills, two aces, three assists and four digs. Against MSU yesterday, Pittman added a career-best 19 kills when she hit .484, added a career-best three aces, and five blocks. On the weekend, Pittman posted 16 blocks (averaging 1.78), 29 kills, five aces and hit .426. 

RPI LISTED BY NCAA
The Gophers are ranked ninth in the latest RPI, announced by the NCAA. Baylor, Texas and Wisconsin round out the top three. 

GOPHERS RANKED SIXTH IN AVCA POLL    
Minnesota is ranked No. 6 in this week's poll, announced Monday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. In all, six Big Ten Conference teams are ranked in the preseason top 25. Wisconsin holds the Big Ten's top spot at No. 4, followed by Minnesota, Penn State (7), Nebraska (8), Purdue (16) and Illinois (19). Michigan is receiving votes. 

GOPHERS ALUMNAE ON THE INTERNATIONAL SCENE    
The Gophers have six competing in professional indoor volleyball this season. Hannah Tapp is competing with Hitachi Rivale in the Japan V-League this winter. Samantha Seliger-Swenson is playing for Beziers in the French League. Tori Dixon is playing for Beijing Auto in the Chinese Super League this winter. Sarah Wilhite Parsons is competing for Sesi Bauru in the Brazilian Superliga. Lauren Gibbemeyer is back with her 2018 team, Eczacıbaşı VitrA in Istanbul, Turkey. Erica Handley is playing in the Czech Republic this season with VK UP Olomouc.
