Amber Fiser and Lexy Ramler have been announced as Women's Collegiate Athlete of the Year finalists for the 2019 Minnesota Sports Awards, announced by Sports Minneapolis on Monday afternoon.Â
Fiser was the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year and an NFCA First-Team All-American in the 2019 season. She led the Gophers to the Women's College World Series for the first time in the NCAA era pitching every inning in Regional and Super Regional play with a 5-0 record.Â
The Van Horne, Iowa native finished the season 31-9 with a 1.27 ERA and 346 strikeouts. She ranked third in the NCAA in wins, fifth in strikeouts and 12th in ERA. Her 31 wins on the season is tied for second all-time in program history. She set a school record and matched a conference record after being named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week six times this season.
Ramler qualified for the NCAA Championships as an individual all-arounder for the second straight year. The sophomore out of St. Michael, Minn. solidified her status as one of the top NCAA gymnasts when she finished as the NCAA runner-up in both the all-around competition (39.6625) and on the uneven bars (9.9375) claiming the best individual finishes of any Gopher gymnast since 1990. Her performance at the national championships made her the first ever gymnast in program history to earn First Team All-America honors in four events in the same year.Â
Throughout the course of the 2019 season, Ramler notched 28 event titles and became the highest scoring all-around gymnast in program history after earning a 39.725 against Maryland.Â
The Minnesota Sports Awards recognize the outstanding achievements of high school, collegiate and professional athletes during the 2018-19 season. The winners will be announced at the third annual awards gala on Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel, The Depot.Â
