MINNEAPOLIS – In its penultimate tournament of the fall, the Minnesota men's golf team is set to compete Monday and Tuesday at the 34th Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, Oct. 7-8, in Vestavia Hills, Ala.

The tournament will be hosted by the University of Alabama at Old Overton Country Club, which is playing as a par-70 at 7,209 yards. The Golden Gophers begin play Monday with 36 holes and wrap up the tournament with 18 on Tuesday.

The 12-team tournament is highlighted by three programs ranked in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll, including No. 17 Arkansas, No. 23 Auburn and No. 24 Ole Miss. In addition, host-Alabama, UAB, BYU and Charlotte are all receiving votes, while Air Force, Colorado State, Princeton and Samford round out the field with Minnesota.

Minnesota's team contingent will consist of senior Thomas Longbella, juniors Angus Flanagan and Evan Long, sophomore Lincoln Johnson and freshman Connor Glynn. Flanagan (69.78), Glynn (70.67), Longbella (71.00) and Long (71.56) have competed in all three tournaments so far this season and represent the top four scoring averages on the team. Johnson, meanwhile, will be making his first appearance since the season-opening Gopher Invitational where he tied for 62nd.

Last year at the event, Minnesota finished in seventh place as a team, while Flanagan finished in a five-way tie for sixth by shooting a 1-under 209. Johnson and Longbella also competed at the event a year ago, finishing 30th and 51st, respectively.

This year, the Gophers are looking to build off the success the program had at last week's Macdonald Cup where they took home the team title and Flanagan was the tournament medalist.

Minnesota finished with a 10-under 830 (274-275-281) for a 24-stroke victory and won its first team title since the 2014 Big Ten Championships. The 830 was the team's lowest 54-hole score since at least the 2000-01 season, while the 10-under par score was the team's lowest score to par since going 17-under at the 2016 Alister Mackenzie Invitational.

Leading the way was Flanagan, who was a tournament medalist for the second time in his career and earned Big Ten Golfer of the Week honors for his performance. He finished 6-under at 204 for the tournament, setting a career best score for 54-holes and matching a career best for tournament score to par. Additionally, Long established career bests for his finish and 54-hole score, while Glynn also had a career-best finish.
