Gophers Ranked in CSCAA Preseason Top-25 Poll

10/9/2019 12:27:00 PM | Men's Swimming & Diving, Women's Swimming & Diving

MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota women's swimming and diving program has been ranked 18th in the country by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), as announced Wednesday morning.

The Gopher men's program also received recognition in the poll, coming in just outside the top-25 at no. 29.

CSCAA's rankings are based on each team's anticipated dual meet performance, as opposed to predictions regarding end-of-year status. The rankings are voted on by CSCAA-member coaches.

Last season, the Gopher men and women were ranked 18th and 13th in the poll, respectively.

Overall, five teams from the Big Ten Conference garnered top-25 recognition on the women's side. Indiana received the top spot of any Big Ten program at no. 9, followed by Michigan (11th), Ohio State (14th) and Wisconsin (20th). As for the men's poll, five Big Ten teams cracked the top-25: Ohio State (fifth), Indiana (sixth), Michigan (eighth), Iowa (19th) and Wisconsin (21st).

Beginning the year as the 18th ranked team in the nation, the Minnesota women will look to build upon a 2018-19 season that featured an 11th place finish at the NCAA Championships. 2019 All-Americans Emily Cook (backstroke), Lindsey Kozelsky (breaststroke) and Tevyn Waddell (backstroke/butterfly/freestyle) all return to the pool for the Gophers in 2019-20.

As for the men, the no. 29 ranking comes on the heels of a 19th place finish at last year's NCAA meet. The Gopher men also return a trio of All-Americans from last season in backstroker/butterflyer Tom Donker, breaststroker Max McHugh and butterflyer Tuomas Pokkinen.
