GopherSports sat down with senior 157-pounder Carson Brolsma to discuss Minnesota wrestling, the steps of Brolsma's wrestling career, and some fun questions to get to know him better. Enjoy!
Carson Brolsma
Osseo, Minnesota
157-pounds
Major: Ag and Food Business Management with an emphasis on financial and business management
GopherSports: When did you fall in love with wrestling?
Brolsma: When I started in seventh or eighth grade taking it more seriously. Up to then I played basketball and wrestled in the same season, so I wasn't as focused.Â
GopherSports: What advice would you have for young wrestlers?
Brolsma: When you start wrestling try to fall in love with practicing and getting better instead of just getting thrown in tournaments right away. You need to fall in love with the sport yourself and once you do that you're going to want to compete and put it on the line. It's beneficial to just hammer out skills in practice and falling in love with that process. The winning will follow.
GopherSports: What is your favorite memory wrestling at Minnesota?
Brolsma: Wrestling at the Big Ten Tournament last year at The Barn. It was a super cool environment having the majority of the crowd Gopher fans. It was a really neat experience and I'm glad I got to do that at least once in my career.
GopherSports: How are you looking forward to the dual at The Barn?
Brolsma: It's a unique experience. I haven't wrestled a single dual meet there so I'm pretty excited. It's a great environment, I remember watching the Gophers wrestle Iowa there as a kid.Â
GopherSports: What is your favorite activity off the mat with the team?
Brolsma: I think it has to be going out on Lake Minnetonka. I just like going out there relaxing and spending the day out there.Â
GopherSports: What is your favorite sport in the Twin Cities?
Brolsma: It's probably out in the suburbs by Lake Minnetonka, out of the real city itself. I'm from like ten minutes away there and it's just home.
GopherSports: What is your go-to meal?
Brolsma: Cheeseburger with a chocolate banana malt
