MINNEAPOLIS -- The No. 1 University of Minnesota women's hockey team used a 3-0 win over Bemidji State to wrap up a WCHA sweep at Ridder Arena on Saturday afternoon.Â
Sarah Potomak, Amy Potomak, and Taylor Heise scored goals for Minnesota (12-1-1, 8-1-1-1 WCHA). The Maroon & Gold led 1-0 on S. Potomak's first-period tally most of the game until A. Potomak doubled the lead with her fifth goal of the season early in the third period and Heise added an insurance goal with less than five minutes remaining. Sydney Scobee made 15 saves in her fourth shutout of the season.
Bemidji State (3-8-1, 2-6-0 WCHA) received 39 saves from goaltender Kerigan Dowhy as Minnesota had a 42-15 advantage in shots on goal.Â
Quotable
"It was a really hard-fought win tonight, but I'm really proud of our team," head coach Brad Frost said. "We defended really, really well. Going into the third in a one-goal game, anything can happen but our team did a nice job continuing to apply the pressure and getting that second and third one there to put the game away. Overall, it was a great weekend and I'm proud of our team. We're looking forward to a good week of practice and getting up to UMD."
Notable
Grace Zumwinkle (53g-47a) picked up her 100th career point as a Gopher with an assist on S. Potomak's first-period goal. Zumwinkle is the 35th Gopher in program history to reach the century mark for scoring.Â
Up Next
The Gophers wrap up the first half of the regular season with a five-game road stand, beginning with next weekend's WCHA series at No. 10 Minnesota Duluth. The Gophers and Bulldogs face off at 3:07 p.m. CT Friday, Nov. 22 and Saturday, Nov. 23 at AMSOIL Arena in Duluth, Minn.
