Gophers Close Out Regular Home Season This Weekend

GOPHERS CLOSE OUT HOME SEASON
The University of Minnesota closes out the regular home season when it hosts Nebraska and Iowa, Friday and Saturday night. The Golden Gophers face the Cornhuskers at 8 p.m., Friday, and the Hawkeyes Saturday at 7 p.m.

The Minnesota match against Nebraska will be televised on Big Ten Network Friday. Saturday's match against Iowa will be streamed on BTN +. The matches will also have game day central pages available on gophersports.com.
TRAFFIC ADVISORY
It's another busy weekend on campus so fans are suggested to plan for the appropriate time to this weekend's matches. Gopher men's hockey faces Wisconsin Friday at 7 p.m., while Gopher volleyball begins at 8 p.m. Both men's hockey and volleyball are in action at 7 p.m., Saturday. ABOUT NEBRASKA
No. 6 Nebraska enters the weekend with a 22-3 overall record and 14-2 in conference play. The Huskers fell to ranked Purdue and Wisconsin earlier this year. Lexi Sun has a team-best 322 kills, averaging 3.50 kills per set. Callie Schwarzenbach and Lauren Stivrins lead the team in blocks, with 101 and 97 respectively. Nicklin Hames has 1,009 assists for the Huskers, as well as 20 aces. Kenzie Knuckles adds 345 digs. As a team, Nebraska is hitting .268 and averages 13.90 kills per set.
ABOUT IOWA
Iowa enters the weekend with a 9-18 overall record and 3-13 in the Big Ten. The Hawkeyes' most recent loss came at Nebraska in five sets. Griere Hughes has 302 kills for the Hawkeyes, averaging 3.28 kills per set. She is followed by Courtney Buzzerio, who has 265 kills. Buzzerio also has a team-best 31 aces. Bree Orr has 783 assists, and Halle Johnston adds 461 digs. Hannah Clayton offers up 74 blocks for the Hawkeyes. As a team, Iowa is hitting .230 and averages 12.72 kills per set.

Minnesota is just 9-34 against Nebraska, dating back to 1975. Since the Huskers joined the Big Ten Conference in 2011, Minnesota has gone 5-8. This weekend marks the first and only time the two teams face each other this year. The Golden Gophers won the last contest between the two teams, also at Maturi Pavilion, 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-18) on Oct. 20, 2018.
Minnesota is 78-11 all-time against Iowa, dating back to 1975. The weekend marks the second time the Gophers will face Iowa this year. Minnesota won, 3-1 over the Hawkeyes in Iowa City, Iowa on Oct. 2.

Minnesota defeated No. 23 Michigan, 25-21, 25-23, 25-20 Saturday, Nov. 16. Taylor Morgan led the Gophers with nine kills. She hit .500, had three blocks and one dig. Claire Sheehan had eight kills, five digs and two blocks. Airi Miyabe offered up eight kills, two blocks and one dig. Stephanie Samedy had seven kills, nine digs and four blocks. Alexis Hart added six kills, hit .333, had four digs and two blocks. Regan Pittman had a team-best nine blocks, as well as four digs and two kills. 20-WIN SEASON
With the win over Michigan last week, Minnesota volleyball earned its 20th win of the season. Minnesota has now won over 20 wins in a single season 37 times in program history. It also marks the fifth year in a row for head coach Hugh McCutcheon and seven in his eight-year tenure.

Regan Pittman hit .640 and had 16 kills, three assists, an ace, five digs and five blocks. Taylor Morgan also had 16 kills and hit .577 with a dig and four blocks. The NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship bracket will be announced, Sunday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. CT on ESPNU. The field of 64 will start play on Dec. 6-7 for the NCAA First and Second Rounds, Dec. 13-14 for Regional Semifinals and Finals, and Dec. 19 & 21 for the NCAA Championships in Pittsburgh.

The Gophers are ranked sixth in the latest RPI, announced by the NCAA. Baylor, Texas, Wisconsin and Stanford currently round out the top four. Pittsburgh is also ahead of the Gophers at No. 5.
