Minnesota Comeback Falls Short

After a valiant comeback, the No. 7 University of Minnesota volleyball team fell to No. 6 University of Nebraska in five sets, 22-25, 18-25, 25-19, 25-11, 3-15. The Golden Gophers move to 20-5 overall and 14-3 in the Big Ten, while Nebraska climbs to 23-3 overall and 15-2 in conference play.  Â
Alexis Hart led the Gophers with 18 kills, hitting .400. She also had one block and one dig. Regan Pittman had 12 kills, six blocks, three digs and one ace. Stephanie Samedy offered up 11 kills, 10 digs and eight blocks. With Taylor Morgan's seven kills, her hitting percentage was .462. She also added seven blocks and one dig. Adanna Rollins had five kills, as well as six digs and three blocks. Kylie Miller had 36 assists, 15 digs, two kills and one ace. CC McGraw had 16 digs, while Rachel Kilkelly had 11.Â
As a team, Minnesota had 56 kills, 65 digs, 13 blocks and hit .257. Nebraska had 67 kills, 72 digs, eight blocks and hit .264.Â
Notable
It was Nebraska's first win at Maturi Pavilion since 2014. Minnesota is now Minnesota is now 9-35 against Nebraska, dating back to 1975.Â

How They Won the Set
First Set: Despite persistent play by Minnesota, Nebraska held a consistent lead throughout. The Gophers cut the lead to one point, 23-22, late in the set but two kills solidified the set for Nebraska.Â
Second Set: Exchanging points early, Nebraska climbed to 16-10 and held the lead for the rest of the set. They hit .385 to Minnesota's .241. The Gophers had six blocks in the set, while the Huskers had 5.
Third Set: With an early 3-0 lead, Minnesota held a consistent lead throughout the set. The Gophers 17th and final kill came from Samedy to solidify the set. Minnesota notably hit .412 in the set.
Fourth Set: After opening with a 6-1 lead, the Gophers dominated the set. Late in the set, Minnesota held a 14 point lead at 24-10. The Gophers improved to hit .412 in the set while holding Nebraska to just .067.
Fifth Set: Nebraska held the lead throughout the set, winning 15-3. After a block from Samedy and Morgan, Nebraska went on a 11-0 run to win the match. They hit .643 in the set.Â
