MINNEAPOLIS – The Gopher Hockey program skated to a 3-3 overtime tie with No. 16 Wisconsin on Saturday night at 3M Arena at Mariucci to close out this weekend's Border Battle series.
Minnesota (5-6-3 overall, 2-3-3-2 Big Ten) closed out the series by taking four out of six Big Ten standings – Wisconsin (6-7-1, 1-4-1-1) earned the conference bonus point on Saturday night with a shootout win in three rounds.
The Badgers looked to take a first period lead into the intermission when Ty Emberson (Wyatt Kalynuk, Sean Dhooghe) found the net at 18:31 of the opening stanza. But Bryce Brodzinski (Jackson LaCombe) scored his first collegiate goal in the final second of the period to send the contest into the first intermission knotted at 1-1.
The Maroon & Gold built up a two-goal lead in the second period with a power-play goal from Blake McLaughlin (Brannon McManus, Robbie Stucker) at 4:22 and an even-strength goal from Scott Reedy (McManus) at 9:13. The third period saw Wisconsin return the two-goal stretch as Tarek Baker (Kalynuk, Max Zimmer) scored at 0:18 and K'Andre Miller (Linus Weissbach) notched the equalizer at 5:34.
Neither team could find the net in either overtime session before Zimmer lit the lamp as the only scorer in three rounds of a sudden death shootout.
Minnesota officially outshot Wisconsin 34-32 in the overtime tie. The Gophers were 1-for-5 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill. Jack LaFontaine (2-3-2) made 29 saves in net for the Gophers while Jack Berry (0-0-1) made 31 saves for Wisconsin. Both goalies added four unofficial saves in the 3-on-3 overtime session.

Scott Reedy has now tallied a goal in three-straight games – a new career long streak. Sampo Ranta's career-long, six-game point streak came to an end on Saturday night.
