Gophers Earn 3-1 Win Over No. 16 Purdue

The No. 6 University of Minnesota earned a 3-1 win over No. 16 Purdue, today in West Lafayette, Ind. Minnesota won the first set, 25-23, lost the second 16-25, and won the third and fourth, 25-17, 25-19. With the win, the Golden Gophers improve to 11-1 in Big Ten action and 17-3 overall. Purdue drops to 15-6 overall and 7-5 in league action.

Alexis Hart hit a stifling .467 when she had 19 kills in 30 attempts. Adanna Rollins followed with 14 kills and completed 10 digs for the double-double. Stephanie Samedy and Airi Miyabe each had eight kills, while Regan Pittman followed with seven. CC McGraw had a match-best 18 digs. Bayley McMenimen added 27 assists and an ace, while Tamara Dolonga had 23 assists.

As a team, Minnesota hit .288 to Purdue's .183. Minnesota also had 57 kills, three aces, eight blocks and 54 digs. Purdue had 50 kills, seven aces, 10 blocks and hit .183.

Ellie Husemann made her first collegiate start in the match. She had a kill and three blocks.

Minnesota travels to Maryland and Ohio State, Nov. 8 and 10. The match against the Terrapins is set for 6 p.m., CST, Friday, while the match at OSU is slated for an 11 a.m., CST time.
How They Won the Set:Â Â
First Set: After 10 ties and five lead changes, the Gophers earned a tight 25-23 first set win. As Minnesota trailed, 22-23, the Gophers earned points off a Purdue service and attack error for match point, while Rollins added a kill for the 1-0 lead. Hart had five kills in the first set.
Second Set: Purdue opened the set with a 7-2 lead and hit .351 en route to a 25-16 set win. The Boilermakers built an 18-9 lead in which Minnesota could not recover.
Third Set: Minnesota hit a blistering .433 in the third set to pace the Gophers to a 25-17 set win and a 2-1 lead. Hart and Rollins each provided five and four kills respectively as Samedy and McMenimen each had an ace.
Fourth: Tied at Trailing 16-17, Minnesota called a timeout and went on a 7-1 run and finished the match with a 25-19. Hart provided her 19th kill for match point, while Purdue committed an attack error for 3-1 final.
