Gophers Back on the Road to Maryland and Ohio State

GOPHERS AT MARYLAND/OSU    
For the third-straight match, Minnesota is on the road, this time at Maryland and Ohio State, Nov. 8 and 10. Friday's match against the Terrapins is set for 6 p.m., CST in College Park, Md. Sunday's tilt against the Buckeyes is slated for 11 a.m., CST, in Columbus, Ohio.

ABOUT MARYLAND  
Maryland enters the Minnesota match with a 12-12 overall record. They are 4-8 in conference play, most recently losing to Ohio State in straight sets. Erika Pritchard leads the team with 328 kills, averaging 3.35 kills per set. Katie Myers has 133 blocks and 37 aces for the Terrapins. Samantha Snyder also has 37 aces, as well as 457 assists. Allegra Rivas adds a team-best 370 digs. As a team, Maryland is hitting .226 and averages 11.34 kills per set. 


ABOUT OHIO STATE    
Ohio State entered the weekend with a 12-12 record. They are 5-7 in conference play, most recently beating Maryland in straight sets. Jenaisya Moore has a team-best 185 kills for the Buckeyes, hitting .257. She is followed by Gabby Gonzales, who has 179 kills. Elle Sandbothe and Lauren Witte lead the team in blocks, recording 61 and 60 respectively. Witte also has 19 aces. Becca Mauer offers up 501 assists, and Mac Podraza has 400. Kylie Murr adds 421 digs. As a team, the Buckeyes are hitting .198 and average 13.51 kills per set.

ALL-TIME SERIES  
This weekend marks Minnesota's first and only meeting between Maryland this season. Minnesota is 12-0 all-time against the Terps, with the first meeting dating back to 1986. Since Maryland joined the Big Ten Conference in 2014, Minnesota holds a 9-0 record. Minnesota earned two wins against the Terrapins last year, 3-0 at Maturi Pavilion, and 3-1 in College Park, Md.    
    The Gophers are 45-36 all-time against the Buckeyes, dating back to 1975. This weekend's meeting marks the second time the Gophers will face Ohio State in 11 days as they competed against each other on Oct. 30 at Maturi Pavilion. Minnesota earned a 3-2 win over the Buckeyes. It marks back-to-back five-setters against OSU as the two teams competed in historic St. John's Arena last year in Columbus. It marks the first time the Gophers will face OSU in newly constructed Covelli Center. 

ON THE DOCKET    
The Gophers return to Maturi Pavilion confines when they host border rival, Wisconsin, Nov. 14 at 8 p.m. The Gopher/Badger match will be televised on Big Ten Network. 

LAST MATCH RECAP
Minnesota earned a 3-1 win over No. 16 Purdue, Sunday in West Lafayette, Ind. Minnesota won the first set, 25-23, lost the second 16-25, and won the third and fourth, 25-17, 25-19. Alexis Hart hit a stifling .467 when she had 19 kills in 30 attempts. Adanna Rollins followed with 14 kills and completed 10 digs for the double-double. Stephanie Samedy and Airi Miyabe each had eight kills, while Regan Pittman followed with seven. CC McGraw had a match-best 18 digs. Bayley McMenimen added 27 assists and an ace, while Tamara Dolonga had 23 assists. As a team, Minnesota hit .288 to Purdue's .183. Minnesota also had 57 kills, three aces, eight blocks and 54 digs. Purdue had 50 kills, seven aces, 10 blocks and hit .183.

DID YOU KNOW?    
In the last four matches, senior outside hitter Alexis Hart has been on fire. In that span, Hart has had 64 kills, averaged 3.56 kills per set and has hit .345. 

EARLIER THIS YEAR VS. OSU    
Minnesota played Ohio State just 11 days after the two teams last met, Oct. 30, at Maturi Pavilion. Trailing, 2-1, Minnesota came back to defeat Ohio State in five sets. Minnesota won the first set, 25-19, fell in the second and third, 19-25, 22-25, but came back and won the fourth 25-10, and the fifth, 17-15. Stephanie Samedy led the Gophers with 18 kills. She also had 14 digs to complete the double-double and seven blocks. Alexis Hart offered up 15 kills, hit .371, had two digs and one block. Adanna Rollins had 12 kills and 11 digs.  As a team, Minnesota had 63 kills, 76 digs, a season-best 17 blocks and hit .253. Ohio State had 62 kills, 78 digs, nine blocks and hit .160.

GOPHERS AND THE RPI
The Gophers are ranked eighth in the latest RPI, announced by the NCAA. Baylor, Texas and Wisconsin round out the top three. 

GOPHERS RANKED SIXTH IN AVCA POLL    
Minnesota is ranked No. 6 in this week's poll, announced Monday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. In all, six Big Ten Conference teams are ranked in the top 25. Wisconsin holds the Big Ten's top spot at No. 4, followed by Minnesota, Nebraska (7), Penn State (8), Purdue (15) and Illinois (21). Michigan is receiving votes.
