STARTING FIVE
• The University of Minnesota opens a three-game road trip on Saturday evening, crossing the border to Sioux Falls for a neutral-site matchup with Oklahoma. The two teams, separated by just over 800 miles, have not met since November 2004 in the Great Alaska Shootout.
• With the win on Tuesday over Cleveland State, the Gophers improved to 95-23 in lid-lifters since the program's inception in 1896. The Gophers have now won 22 of their past 22 season openers including five straight. Minnesota's 35-point margin of victory was its largest season-opening win since beating American 72-36 in 2012.
• Minnesota is embarking on one of the toughest starts to the schedule in many years, with the next three games away from home, all against high-major conference competition. The Gophers have not faced three high-major teams in their first four games (excluding preseason tournaments) since 1969 (Notre Dame, UCLA, at Iowa State). Minnesota has not played three such opponents away from home since 1956, starting the season at Notre Dame, Marquette and Creighton twice.
• With the matchup against the Big XII member Sooners, Saturday's game is the first of six non-conference games against power conference opponents. Remaining in the slate are Butler and DePaul (BIG EAST), Clemson (ACC), Oklahoma State (Big XII) and Utah (Pac-12) – all coming before the end of the calendar year.
• Saturday's game marks the third trip by the Maroon and Gold to the Sanford Pentagon. The Gophers last played at the 3,200-seat, five-sided arena in back-to-back years, falling to Oklahoma State, 62-60, on December 12, 2015 before defeating Vanderbilt, 56-52, on Dec. 3, 2016. Of note on the Commodores' roster that season was freshman Payton Willis (now of the Gophers), who started and scored three points, one rebound, one assist and a steal in 23 minutes of play.

SCOUTING THE SOONERS
• Oklahoma is also 1-0 on the season after capturing an 85-67 home victory over UTSA on Tuesday night.
• De'Vion Harmon and Austin Reaves each chipped in 23 points to lead the Sooner offense, which trailed the Roadrunners by as many as seven before a second-half scoring run pushed the game out of reach.
• Power forward Brady Manek was selected to the Karl Malone Award preseason watch list, given to the top four-man in the nation, while senior forward Kristian Doolittle was a preseason All-Big XII honorable mention after earning third team honors last season.
• OU also has a large contingent of new faces to start the season, welcoming nine new players to the roster from last year's squad which reached the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in the last seven years. The Sooners fell to eventual national champion Virginia, 63-51, in the NCAA Second Round in Columbia, S.C.

GOPHERS VS. THE BIG XII
• Minnesota has a 40-33 record against the current membership of the Big XII, excluding vacated games.
• Series records against Big XII schools are as follows, excluding vacated games: Iowa State (18-11), Kansas (1-1), Kansas State (9-6), Oklahoma (4-4), Oklahoma State (4-3), Texas (0-1), TCU (2-0), Texas Tech (1-5), West Virginia (1-2).
• Saturday's game is the first of two Big XII opponents for the Maroon and Gold, both coming on neutral courts (Oklahoma State in Tulsa, Dec. 21).

RAINING IN THE BARN
• Tuesday's home opener versus Cleveland State saw the Gophers connect on 13 3-pointers, tying for the fourth-highest single game total in program history.
• This year's squad matched the total last reached in a 74-69 win over Missouri State at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off on Nov. 20, 2015.
• Last season, the Gophers (who ranked among the nation's least productive teams behind the arc) sank double-digit treys just four times including a season-high of 12 in a win over Indiana on Feb. 16.
Payton Willis led the Gophers and tied a career-high by making 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, while Marcus Carr and Gabe Kalscheur each had three trifectas.

UP NEXT
• Minnesota continues life on the road as it travels to Indianapolis for a Gavitt Tipoff Games showdown at historic Hinkle Fieldhouse against Butler.
• This will be the fourth time the two schools have met and Minnesota's second trip to Hinkle following a 79-68 triple-overtime win on Dec. 22, 1973.
• FS1 will televise the game live at 7:30 p.m. while KTLK will have the radio broadcast.
