Gophers Earn 3-0 Sweep Over Maryland

The No. 6 University of Minnesota volleyball team earned a 3-0 win (25-21, 25-19, 25-21) over Maryland, tonight in College Park, Md. With the win, the Golden Gophers improve to 18-3 overall and 12-1 in Big Ten action.
Adanna Rollins led the Gophers in both kills and digs when she had 13 kills and 12 digs for her seventh double-double of the season. Alexis Hart had 10 kills and hit .333. Taylor Morgan and Airi Miaybe each had seven kills and hit .312 and .300, respectively. Regan Pittman had six kills and hit .455. Morgan also led the Gophers with three blocks.
As a team, Minnesota hit .274 to Maryland's .175 and had 48 kills to the Terrapins' 31. Despite the Gophers being outblocked, 10-4, Minnesota held a 50-46 dig advantage.
Notable
Tamara Dolonga collected her first career-kill in tonight's match. She also had 18 assists in the win, a match-high.

"I was impressed with the performance," McCutcheon said. "Lots of good stuff happening at the pins for us tonight. I thought we had some good hitting from Adanna and Alexis and they did a nice job on the left side. The middles were good as was the passing. For the most part, we were in control of the match. I'm just proud of them for a nice well-rounded effort tonight and on to the next one."

How they won the set:
First Set: Minnesota hit .325 while Rollins added five kills in the first set for a 25-21 set win and a 1-0 lead. Minnesota opened the match with a 13-7 lead that paced the Gophers for the remainder of the set.
Second Set: Minnesota bettered its first set efficiency when it hit .333 as Rollins added another six kills. The Gophers built an 18-11 lead and later finished off the set on an overpass kill from Pittman for a 2-0 lead.
Third Set: The Gophers closed out the match with 25-21 third set win. Minnesota led, 19-13, but Maryland fought back and cut the Gopher lead to one at 22-21. As the Gophers called a timeout, Minnesota came out of the break with a block from Morgan and Stephanie Samedy. From there, McGraw added an ace for match point, while Maryland committed an attack error for the set and match win.
