Gophers Depart for Hawaii Training Trip

12/31/2019 11:57:00 AM | Men's Swimming & Diving, Women's Swimming & Diving

Members of Minnesota's swimming program officially departed for their annual Hawaii training trip on Tuesday, marking yet another year in the longstanding Gopher tradition.

Minnesota swimmers will spend the next two weeks training at the University of Hawaii before taking on the Rainbow Warriors on Jan. 11. Thereafter, the team will depart Hawaii on Jan. 15 for their Lon Angeles-based dual against USC on Jan. 17.

While in Hawaii, the Gophers will stay in condos just off of Waikiki Beach in Honolulu. With predictable weather conditions ideal for swimming, the two-week stay in Hawaii will allow Minnesota swimmers to partake in quality, high-leverage training that would be difficult to replicate elsewhere.

Although Gopher divers will not be traveling along on the trip, they will instead head south for the University of Tennessee Diving Invite from Jan. 3-5. Later in the month, several divers will also travel to Southern California for the Bruin Diving Invitational in Los Angeles.

While in Honolulu, select Gopher swimmers will be journaling their trip, both in written and video form on GopherSports. Keep an eye on the GopherSports website and each of the Minnesota swimming & diving program's social media accounts to stay updated on all Hawaii happenings.
