Gophers Compete in Minnesota Invite LC Time Trial Day

MINNEAPOLIS – Following the conclusion of the four-day Minnesota Invite, the Minnesota swimming & diving program participated in a long course time trial session on Sunday morning at Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.

The time trial session served as an opportunity for Minnesota swimmers to notch Olympic Trials cuts in their respective events. Before today's competition, six different Gophers had already combined to total 10 OT cuts for the U.

On Sunday, it was freshman Maggie Summit who added her name to that list. In the 50 free, Summit touched the wall in 25.87, topping the trials qualifying time of 25.99.

All-Americans Max McHugh (1:03.05) and Lindsey Kozelsky (1:10.97) swam fast enough in the 100 breast on Sunday to post OT cut qualifying times, although the pair already achieved the feat earlier in the calendar year.

Also on Sunday morning, sophomore Abbey Kilgallon finished first in the 800 free with a time of 8:52.88.

Minnesota's next dual meet action of the season comes on Saturday, Jan. 11, when the Gophers battle Hawaii to mark the end of their holiday training trip.

Jean K. Freeman is scheduled to host USA Diving World Cup Trials from Dec. 17-22. The Maroon and Gold is also scheduled to participate in the University of Tennessee Diving Invite from Jan. 3-5.
