Burke, Reedy Earn Big Ten Weekly Accolades

2/19/2019 9:07:00 AM | Men's Hockey

MINNEAPOLIS – A pair of Gopher Hockey players earned recognition on Tuesday following Minnesota's sweep at Ohio State as Nathan Burke was named Big Ten First Star of the Week and Scott Reedy was named Big Ten Third Star of the Week.

A native of Scottsdale, Ariz., Burke tied for the Big Ten lead and tied for fourth in the nation with four points (two goals, two assists) over the weekend. The freshman opened the weekend with his first career three-point game in Friday's 4-3 win, scoring a goal and adding two assists (the Gophers are now 3-0-0 this year when Burke records a multi-point game). The forward followed up with another goal in another 4-3 win on Saturday as Minnesota improved to 2-0-2 this year against the Big Ten leading Buckeyes. Burke finished the weekend with a plus-five rating. In 22 games this year, he has recorded 14 points (five goals, nine assists).

A native of Prior Lake, Minn., Reedy picked up his second Big Ten weekly honor of the season after scoring in back-to-back games for the Maroon & Gold. The sophomore forward snapped a 13-game point drought with the game-winning, power-play goal on Friday night and then tallied again only just 20 seconds into Saturday's contest for Minnesota's fastest goal to start a game this season. Reedy has seven points (five goals, two assists) in 27 games this season while the Gophers are 3-0-0 when he scores a goal and 4-0-0 when he picks up a point.

With the addition of Burke's accolade, 10 different Gopher Hockey players have earned Big Ten weekly honors this season with Reedy and senior captain and Hobey Baker Award nominee Tyler Sheehy each earning two accolades.

Friday's win over Ohio State snapped a seven-game winning streak for the Buckeyes while Minnesota has now given Ohio State two of its three losses over the last 16 games. The series opener also ended a four-game skid on the road for the Maroon & Gold.

Minnesota closes out the regular season with two more series at 3M Arena at Mariucci over the next two weeks, hosting Notre Dame (Feb. 22-23) and Arizona State (March 1-2). Tickets are available at GopherSports.com.
