Fourteen Gopher alumnae are playing professional hockey in the NWHL, CWHL, and EWHL this season.

Fourteen Gopher women's hockey alumnae are playing professional hockey during the 2018-19 season. Ten former Gophers are playing in the NWHL in Hannah Brandt ('16), Winny Brodt Brown ('03), Jordyn Burns ('15), Dani Cameranesi ('17), Amanda Kessel ('16), Amanda Leveille ('16), Gigi Marvin ('09), Chelsey Brodt Rosenthal ('06), Kate Schipper ('17), and Lee Stecklein ('17). A pair of Minnesota alumnae are coaching the NWHL's Minnesota Whitecaps in co-head coach Ronda Curtin Engelhardt ('03) and assistant coach Laura Slominski ('02).

Two Gophers are playing in the CWHL in Megan Bozek ('13) and Noora Raty ('13), and Sydney Baldwin ('18) and Caitlin Reilly ('18) are representing Minnesota in Europe in the EWHL. In total, there are 56 WCHA alumnae on the rosters of the two North American professional hockey leagues -- with 34 former WCHA stars in the five-team NWHL.

MINNEAPOLIS – As the college women's hockey regular season winds down, the 14 Golden Gopher women's hockey alumnae playing professional hockey this season are also gearing up for the postseason. The last month of action was highlighted by the NWHL and CWHL all-star weekends along with battles for playoff positions.

National Women's Hockey League (NWHL)

Six regular-season games remain before the NWHL begins playoffs. Currently, the Boston Pride and Minnesota Whitecaps are tied for first in the league standings with 20 points and identical 10-4 records. The Buffalo Beauts (9-4), Metropolitan Riveters (3-11), and Connecticut Whale (2-9) round out the standings.

Kessel ranks fourth in the league and leads the Riveters with 15 points (2g-13a) in 13 games played while Cameranesi (4g-10a) and Marvin (8g-5a) are among the NWHL's top-10 scoring leaders; Marvin's eight goals are tied for fourth in the league as well.

Brandt (5g-6a), Schipper (5g-6a), and Stecklein (1g-7a) are among the Whitecaps' top scorers while Leveille ranks fourth in the league with a .916 save percentage and has a 2.27 goals against average with a 9-4 record, including two shutouts. Brodt Rosenthal (4a) and Brodt Brown (1) are also on the scoresheet for the Whitecaps while Burns (1a) has played in two games for the Beauts.

The NWHL held its annual All-Star Weekend in Nashville earlier this month. Stecklein served as a team captain along with Shannon Szabados. Brandt, Leveille, Cameranesi, Marvin, and Schipper played with Team Stecklein while Kessel was victorious with Team Szabados, winning 3-2 in a shootout. The NWHL All-Star Weekend also included a skills competition also won by Team Szabados, and Cameranesi won the Accuracy Shooting contest.

Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL)

Seven regular-season games remain on the CWHL schedule for the 2018-19 season. The Calgary Inferno (20-4) and Montreal Canadians (20-5) have clinched playoff positions and land atop the CWHL standings with 41 points apiece. Bozek and the Markham Thunder (12-9) and Raty and the Shenzhen KRS Vanke Rays (13-12) are third and fourth in the league standings, respectively, and the Toronto Furies (11-14) and Worcester Blades (0-25) round out the standings.

Bozek (1g-7a) ranks 11th in scoring among CWHL defense with eight points in 23 games played; seven of her eight points have come on the power play. Meanwhile, Raty ranks fourth in the league with a 2.40 goals against average and a .917 save percentage. She has an 8-10 record in 18 games played.

At the CWHL All-Star Game, Bozek and Raty both played for Team Gold, which defeated Team Purple by a score of 8-4 for the win.

Elite Women's Hockey League (EWHL)

Caitlin Reilly ranks second on the Vienna Sabres and third in the EWHL with 38 points (23g-15a) in 15 games while Sydney Baldwin is tied for 16th in the league with 19 points (6g-13a) in 10 games. The Vienna Sabres play in the EWHL Tournament semifinals against the Bolzano Eagles this Saturday with the championship and third-place game to follow on Sunday.
