Chantal Nack Brings Home B1G Title in 500 Free

The Minnesota women's swimming and diving team showcased the strength of their program on day two of the 2019 Big Ten Championships at the Counsilman-Bilingsley Aquatics Center in Bloomington, Ind. as three different student-athletes placed in the top three on the podium for their events and eight Gophers earned their way into the finals during prelims. The team is currently in fourth place after two nights of competition with a total of 328 points heading into the third day of the championships.
Senior Chantal Nack swam her way to a Big Ten Title as she went 4:36.55 in the 500 Freestyle to take her place as a 2019 Conference Champion. She stood atop the podium next to teammate Mackenzie Padington who took second place with her time of 4:37.28.
Minnesota going 1-2 in the 500 Free was not the only top-three podium appearance for the Gophers. Sarah Bacon took silver in the 1-meter diving competition, earning second with her score of 363.95 and bringing the Minnesota medal count to 4 (3 individual, 1 relay).
Zoe Avestruz (50 Freestyle), Kristen Hayden (1-meter diving) and Mariam Khamis (1-meter diving) also qualified for the A finals of tonight's competition. Avestruz came in sixth after touching the wall in 22.63, while Hayden claimed fifth with her score of 316.75 and Khamis finished eighth after earning a score of 294.65.
Abbey Erwin and Kelli McCarthy both made appearances in the C finals of the 500 Freestyle after qualifying in this morning's prelims. Erwin won the heat after swimming a 4:45.85 and McCarthy took 23rd with her time of 4:47.23.
The 400 Medley Relay Team of Emily Cook, Lindsey Kozelsky, Tevyn Waddell and Nack notched a fourth-place finish and secured themselves a spot at the NCAA Championships with their 'A' cut time of 3:32.16. This is Minnesota's fourth 'A' cut time so far at Big Tens and it is only the second day.

Finals for all seven previously mentioned events as well as the 200 Freestyle Relay begin at 5:30 p.m. CT.
