Sarah Bacon Wins 3 Meter B1G Title

The Minnesota's women swimming and diving team kept up their hot streak going into day three of the 2019 Big Ten Championships in Bloomington, Ind. as eleven different athletes placed on the podium in their events and thirteen athletes qualified for finals after their prelims performances. The Golden Gophers sit in fourth place at the close of day three, having accumulated 657 points.

Tevyn Waddell swam her way to third place in the 100 butterfly with her time of 52.00 and to fourth place in the 100 backstroke with her time of 52.28. Chantal Nack placed third in the 200 freestyle with her new personal-best time of 1:43.70. Lindsey Kozelsky and Rachel Munson swam their way to third and fifth-place finishes, 58.96 and 59.71 respectively, in the 100 breaststroke. 

With her performance in the 3-meter diving competition, Sarah Bacon once again become a Big Ten Champion (2018 1-meter Champion), she also set a new conference record, school record and pool record at Counsilman-Bilingsley Aquatic Center with her score of 430.16. Kristen Hayden's score of 346.50 and Mariam Khamis' score of 316.10 earned the two divers their sixth and seventh place finishes respectively. Xiao Fu secured a twelfth-place finish in the consolation finals with her score of 303.75.

Abbey Erwin and Kelli McCarthy competed in the 400 Individual Medley, both scoring points for the Gophers with their times of 4:16.33 and 4:16.67. Emily Cook placed eleventh in the consolation finals after touching the wall in 52.56. Finishing off the night, the 200 Free Relay team of Zoe Avestruz, Kaia Grobe, Olivia Bloomer, and Nack secured fifth place after racing a 1:30.96. 

The Gophers posted a handful of new PRs on Day Three and all five women added to Minnesota's overall score with their swims.

Tomorrow's prelims will see swimmers in the 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly and 1650 Freestyle compete for a spot in the finals while the divers will participate in the platform dive competition. Finals for all six previously mentioned events as well as the 400 Freestyle Relay begin at 5:30 p.m. CT.
