Minnesota Finishes Fourth at B1G Championships

The 2019 Big Ten Championships closed out at the Counsilman-Bilingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington, Ind. with impressive performances from the Gophers. Nine student-athletes qualified for the Saturday night finals after this morning's prelims, while six placed on the podium and four Recorded new personal bests. The Maroon and Gold finished fourth in the Big Ten, scoring a cumulative of 942 points at the end of the four days.
Chantal Nack set a new school record in the 200 backstroke after touching the wall in 1:51.42 to finish second in the event. Tevyn Waddell placed 4th in the same race with her time of 1:53.68.
Also having made an appearance on the podium for the Gophers was Zoe Avestruz who finished 6th in the 100 freestyle with her time of 49.12. Lindsey Kozelsky took 5th in the 200 breaststroke with 2:08.42. Mackenzie Padington swam the 1650 freestyle in 16:10.54 to take seventh place. Kristen Hayden dove to 6th in the platform diving competition with her score of 308.55
Emily Cook set a new personal record for the second day in a row. Today's being a 1:55.24 in the 200 backstroke. Senior Lauren Lalumiere finished off her last race as a Gopher by setting a personal best with her time of 16:31.18 to place 16th. Additionally, the 400 Free Relay team of Avestruz, Nack, Waddell, and Padington placed 5th with a time of 3:16.84.
Four Gophers broke PRs on Day 4, adding to the already long list of new records set this week in Bloomington.

To add to the team's impressive performances over the weekend, five Gophers were named to All-Big Ten teams. Chantal Nack and Sarah Bacon we're selected to the First Team All-Big Ten and Zoe Avestruz, Tevyn Waddell, and Mackenzie Padington were named to the Second Team All-Big Ten. Rachel Munson was chosen as a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award Honoree.
