MINNEAPOLIS – Gopher Hockey junior forward and Hobey Baker Award nominee Rem Pitlick has been named the Big Ten First Star of the Week after recording five points in last weekend's conference series with Michigan at 3M Arena at Mariucci.
A native of Plymouth, Minn., Pitlick tied for the Big Ten scoring lead last week with teammate Tyler Sheehy while the linemates tied for second in the nation over that stretch. The Nashville Predators prospect picked up two points (one goal, one assist) on Friday in his 100th career game before adding three more points (one goal, two assists) in Saturday's series finale. The junior forward has now recorded four-straight multi-point performances while notching points in 17 of the last 18 games for the Maroon & Gold.
Pitlick, who has goals in eight of the last nine games including an active career-best six-game goal streak, is also entering this weekend's series at Penn State on a career-long nine-game point streak. His 17 goals and 33 points this year are both career highs with both stats leading the Gophers. Pitlick is currently tied for sixth in scoring among all NCAA skaters. In 101 career games, Pitlick has recorded 96 points (43 goals, 53 assists) for the Maroon & Gold.
Minnesota starts a four-game road trip next weekend with a Big Ten series at Penn State. Tickets for the Maroon & Gold's remaining two home series against Notre Dame (Feb. 22-23) and Arizona State (March 1-2) are available at GopherSports.com.
