LINCOLN, Neb. - The Minnesota women's gymnastics team remains undefeated in Big Ten competition after winning a close battle with Nebraska through four rotations. The No. 18 Gophers improve to an overall record of 8-2 for the 2019 season after upsetting the No. 16 Cornhuskers.

The Maroon and Gold took the lead from the first rotation and maintained a lead of at least .475 throughout the first three events. The Cornhuskers made it a close competition in the fourth rotation as they brought the score back within .225, but Minnesota closed out the win posting a final score of 196.600 to Nebraska's 196.375.

For the second consecutive meet the Gophers recorded team event scores of 49.000 or higher on every apparatus. Team floor put up a crucial 49.250 event total to help Minnesota earn an overall score in the 196 range for the third time this season (previous: 196.925 at Penn State, 196.725 vs Michigan State).

Lexy Ramler posted an all-around score of 39.475, taking second in the all-around competition. She had a meet-high score of 9.900 on beam and was a consistent presence for the Gophers on the competition floor.

Vault

Ramler put up the best vault score for the Gophers, earning a 9.875 for her Yurchenko one-and-a-half. That score was strong enough to claim a share of the individual event title (shared with Nebraska's Taylor Houchin). Ona Loper and Paige Williams each scored a 9.850, and Ali Sonier and Kristen Quaglia posted matching 9.750s to round out the Minnesota vault rotation that scored a 49.075.

Bars

Ivy Lu led the Gophers on the uneven bars as they notched a team event score of 49.175. The Montreal native stuck her double-layout dismount to earn a 9.900 for her routine. Ramler posted the second-highest score for MInnesota with her 9.875. Tiarre Sales returned to the uneven bars with a strong 9.850 after struggling on the apparatus last weekend against Michigan State. Hannah Willmarth posted a 9.825 for the second meet-in-a-row and Quaglia added a 9.775 for the Gophers.

Beam

Minnesota earned a team beam score of 49.100 to clinch the win at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Ramler anchored the rotation for the Gophers and won the event outright with her score of 9.900. Mary Korlin-Downs put up a 9.825, her best score so far this season. Lu posted her own 9.825, and Sonier and Sales were both awarded 9.775s to round out the event for the Gophers.

Floor

Williams recorded a 9.900 on floor exercise to tie for first in the event with Nebraska's Megan Schweihofer and Sierra Hassel. Rachel Cutler led off the rotation by posting a season-high score of 9.825, and Sonier followed it up by notching a new career-best 9.875 herself. Abbie Nylin, Ramler and Loper matched Cutler's score of 9.825 and contributed to the overall team score of 49.250 for the event.

The Gophers are back home at Maturi Pavilion this Friday, Feb. 15 when they will face off against Maryland at the annual Always Dreaming Meet in memory of Frank Kara. We are offering Love Your Melon ticket packages as well as a Family 4-pack promotion for our Cancer Awareness Night.
