AUSTIN, Texas - The No. 22/RV University of Minnesota Gophers picked up the series win over No. 9/10 Texas with a 3-1 victory this afternoon. Â
"It was huge for our team," head coach Jamie Trachsel said. "We have been getting better and better and have used our entire roster in different moments. We have had multiple people step up at different times."Â
The Gophers now have three ranked wins on the season including this weekend's two top-10 victories over the Longhorns. Minnesota is now 15-7 on the season.Â
I'm proud of the entire weekend we had," Trachsel said. "I'm most proud of coming out today and responding from yesterday."Â
Trachsel picked up the 300th win of her career with today's victory. She has picked up 56 of those wins in her time at Minnesota.Â
Amber Fiser recorded the win in the circle and improves to 8-5 on the season. In six innings she only allowed one run on eight hits and struck out two batters.Â
The Gophers wasted no time jumping out to the lead, scoring two runs in the first frame. Ellee Jensen drew a walk to start things off. She moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from MaKenna Partain and scored on a Maddie Houlihan single as the catcher couldn't corral a throw home. Natalie DenHartog notched her ninth RBI of the weekend later to score Houlihan and make it 2-0 early.Â
The lone Longhorns run came in the bottom of the first inning. They scraped across eight hits on the day but the majority of it was small ball and the Gophers were able to keep them in check.Â
Partain smacked a double in the third and scored as Hope Brandner found shallow center for an RBI-single.Â
The bats went quiet for the Gophers as the game went on but the 3-1 lead was all Fiser and the field would need. Rachel Lowary came in the game seventh and slammed the door shut on the weekend with a strikeout and no hits allowed.Â
