Max McHugh was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year.

The University of Minnesota men's swimming and diving team finished fifth at the 2019 Big Ten Championships with a final overall score of 726 after four days of competition. The Gophers brought home five medals (4 individual, 1 relay), had eight individuals and all five relays finish on the podium, and saw 18 swimmers record new personal best times.

Max McHugh was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year after his incredible performance throughout the past four days. The Sturgeon Bay, Wis. native earned two individual silver medals (100 Breast, 200 Breast) and a bronze medal with the 400 Medley Relay team. He swam 'A' cut times in both his breaststroke races and helped to set a new school record in the 400 Medley Relay. His second-place time of 1:52.40 in the finals of the 200 Breast was also a new PR.

Bowen Becker took home two individual Big Ten Titles for the Gophers with his first-place finishes in the 50 Free on Thursday and the 100 Free during tonight's competition. The senior set a new pool and a new school record in the 100 Freestyle preliminaries with his time of 41.53. He then went on to claim the 2019 Big Ten Title in the 100 Free after touching the wall in 41.71 during the finals. Becker swept the sprint freestyle events at this year's championships, having won the 50 Free Title on Thursday.
