Rachel Schow has been selected as the Big Ten Conference Track Athlete of the Week.
MINNEAPOLIS -- Golden Gopher women's track & field redshirt junior Rachel Schow has been selected as the Big Ten Conference Track Athlete of the Week after her performance at the outdoor season-opening Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Fla., last weekend.
Schow won the 400m hurdles at the Hurricane Invitational with a time of 59.14 seconds in a field of 23 athletes. She also placed third of 25 and was the top college athlete in the 100m hurdles in 13.99 seconds. With her season-opening marks, Schow leads the Big Ten Conference in both events so far this season. Nationally, she ranks third in the 400m hurdles and 23rd in the 100m hurdles in 2019.
This week's award marks the first B1G weekly award of Schow's career. A Second Team All-American and Second Team All-Big Ten honoree during the 2018 outdoor season, Schow ranks third in Gophers' history in both the 100m hurdles (13.51) and 400m hurdles (57.71).
The Gophers are off from competition this weekend but resume the team's outdoor slate next week at the Stanford Invitational.
